We had the good fortune of connecting with Mercedes Montgomery and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mercedes, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Spring of 2021 I cooked a meal for my boyfriend, after he ate he called me, and said “this is good you know you should sell this.” My love and passion for cooking made it easy to make the decision to start U Kno It’s Good Catering. Started cooking for family and friends, then one event booking lead to the next event.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When securing a booking with “U Kno It’s Good Catering”, it is our duty to provide the best catering experience possible with the service, food, along with taste, presentation and an overall pleasant experience. We take pride in our business mission of “Serving great memories.”. A lot of hard-work and research has went into where we are today. It was fairly easy to get started because the food literally sells it self and we have gotten a lot of business based of word of mouth and social media. I would like the world to know that “U Kno It’’s Good Catering” is on the rise and goal is for the whole world to be able to taste the different dishes that we have to offer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is such a huge city with a lot of different cuisines. For a week long trip, a few places we would eat is Phil & Derek’s, Moxie’s, Grace’s, The Toasted Yolk and Fleming’s. We would possibly drink and hangout at Prospect Park, The Address etc. In Houston, there are so many different places to hangout that are interesting and fun, such as Kamp, Turkey Leg Hut, State Fare, Lost & Found and Taste Bar + Kitchen.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my grandmother, Dorothy Tellison. She has always played a major role in my life and she also contributed to my cooking skills. I would also like to give credit to my spouse, Chris Asumnu, as he has been very innovative and supportive regarding our catering business.
