Meet Miaya Stennis | Digital marketer and virtual stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miaya Stennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miaya, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Yes! My favorite quote would have to to be, “sink or swim!” My mother yelled this quote out of the car as she and my daddy drove away after dropping me off at my first day of college. In that moment I was confused and scared by what she meant. But now as an adult I often think back to that day and hear her in the back of my mind when I’m struggling. It reminds me to keep my head above water, even when I feel like I am drowning in life. Simply put, this world will make you or break you and that quote from my mother always reminds me to not let it break me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel what sets me apart from others is I am authentically myself. When I style or come up with creative concepts I sometimes wonder will the mass enjoy this or will they like it? Which would sometimes lead me to doubt myself. I’ve learned to just roll with whatever I am feeling and 9/10 times people love it. So I’ve learned to stay true to myself as my originality is what makes me desirable. I want the world to know to stay true to themselves as well, and don’t let society dictate their life and dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely would recommend starting the morning off at LaLa Land Cafe or Wild for a good matcha and light breakfast during the weekdays. For a weekend morning would definitely do brunch at the Breakfast Klub. Maybe milk and honey spa after for some relaxation before going to midtown for some drinks and bites at Electric Feel Good. Definitely recommend checking out the turtle races at Woodrow’s in midtown on Thursday nights! I could go on and on because there’s always so much to do in the city but these are my go to.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, my family and fiancé have been the biggest pillars in my career journey. They are always there to provide a listening ear and advice. I honestly would not be here without them and their encouragement. My mother, June Reddix-Stennis, definitely deserves extra recognition because she is who introduced me to the world of marketing. She and my father, James Stennis, are both entrepreneurs and are the reason I had the courage to start a business for myself. So without them, there would be no me and I am forever grateful.
