We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Bateman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
There is risk in almost everything, even if it just a small amount. I have been an entrepreneur all my life so I am no stranger to risk. In many cases the risks that I have taken have paid off, but they don’t always. Regardless of the outcome I have learned something new with each risk I have taken. I would have to say that my biggest fear is that at the end of my time here on earth I will look back and think, “I should have done that when I had the chance!” There should be a balance to risk though. If you are taking a risk on a new product you have invented that is a big risk but you should never risk you home, your family life, or your health. Finding a balance is important and sometimes the hardest thing about taking risks.
Right now I am involved in one of the largest risks I have ever taken. I have been a technologist for decades but recently I stared a food manufacturing company called Crème-Delish. We make one product, Crème-Delish Culinary Powder, a food and beverage enhancer. When I started I knew nothing about working in a kitchen, FDA labels, or packaging a product for distribution, much less food manufacturing. My passion for the product came about because my family has made a beverage for generations and I wanted to put it on the market. I learned that the beverage was going to be almost impossible to scale as a business so I decided to convert it into a powder. This powder turned out to be much more than a beverage mix, it is the first product, in culinary history, that can be utilized across all the culinary arts. You can cook with it, bake with it, make beverages with it, cure meats with it, as well as, make frozen or refrigerated treats with it. I have to admit, for the first time I just stumbled into a product and did not have to spend years of research and industry evaluation as I have had to do in the past. What I did, and still have to do, is learn about food manufacturing, packaging, FDA guidelines, and so much more. The amount of risk for me in this industry is larger than any two projects I have worked on in the past due to my lack of knowledge starting out but I have already learned so much, including that there is so much more to learn.
You can go through life not taking any risks but that is not me. With risk come reward, not always financial but some type of gain always comes from risk from my experience. You will not always find success when you take risk but failure is a great learning experience. The important thing to remember that it is not the failure that defines you, it is what you learn from it, as well as, how you pick yourself up and move forward that matters.
What should our readers know about your business?
Crème-Delish LLC is a food manufacturing company that manufactures a very unique, patent pending Culinary Powder. What makes it so unusual is that it is the first product, in culinary history, that can be used across all the culinary arts. Normally you have a mix that is designed to make cookies or cakes, and seasonings are designed for a particular type of food such as pork, beef, or fish. Until Crème-Delish Culinary Powder was created you would never consider using one product to make beer battered fish, a pork loin, and lobster sauce, as well as, ice cream, cheesecake, donuts, and beverages. The ability to utilize our Culinary Powder for sweet or savory, and use it wet or dry, makes it a very flexible ingredient that will save time in the kitchen and provides a consistent flavor profile each and every time, without having to weigh out multiple ingredients.
There are many ingredients that go into crafting our Culinary Powder but there are several key ingredients that are important to the results that comes from using our Culinary Powder in a recipe. The Madagascar vanilla helps to bring out other flavors in a recipe, much like salt. The cream helps to create a particular mouth feel and helps to coat the pallet, while the egg helps to create a pleasant lingering aftertaste and the cinnamon provides a particular level of warmth to the flavor. When used in savory dishes it’s common to use smaller amounts to help bring out the flavors in a particular recipe while in recipes where you wish the flavor profile to lean toward more of a vanilla and cinnamon accent or flavor, you use more of the Culinary Powder. There is nothing, nor has there ever been, a product like Crème-Delish Culinary Powder and am honored, and grateful, to have the opportunity to introduce such a amazing product to the public.
Building a business is never a smooth road, regardless of the type of business. When the business is based on a new product, nobody has even heard of, it makes it even harder because you have to educate the public on what the product can do for them and why they should buy it. I have to fall back on a lesson I learned as a young teenager, never allow what happens to you in life determine what you do in life. There are hurdles to overcome, you just do it. One step at a time, one hurdle at a time, one solution at a time.
Becoming a food manufacturer required a lot of education, licensing, certificates, and research. Going from IT to food manufacturing is a big step and I feel I will be learning for years to come but I look forward to it. I love learning new things, expanding my knowledge base, and finding new ways to introduce new, quality products to consumers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting from out of town a week would not be enough time to show them all the wonderful things available in The Woodlands/Spring area. I can tell you the first place I would take them to eat is our own food truck More Than Pasta for several obvious reasons but the main one is because the food chef Steve makes is nothing less than amazing. After that there is always Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for concerts and other events, there are some incredible Farmer’s Markets that we would be able to visit, not to mention the history one can experience in Old Town Spring. Market Square in The Woodlands is a great place to spend the day shopping and eating while there are several parks in The Woodlands that we could visit just to relax and let the dogs have fun. Star Cinema Grill, located in The Woodlands comes to mind as well, a great place to eat and watch a movie. As far as a schedule for such a thing, I don’t do that. I schedule my business time, not my relaxation time, When you set time aside to relax you should be able to do what you want, when you want, during that time. Doing so makes the time you spend much more enjoyable because you don’t have to meet a particular schedule.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Since I started out knowing nothing about working in a kitchen, or manufacturing food, I have a large circle of people who have been instrumental in, and vital to, the growth of Crème-Delish. Too many to even list but I am grateful to each and every person who has extended their hand in an effort to help me, educate me, consult with me, promote the company, and sell our Culinary Powder. If I had to pick just one person to give a shout out to, it would have to be my business partner, chef Steve Smith. As an entrepreneur, it is important to understand your limits and for the things you can’t do, find someone who can. While I have learned so much about the culinary arts it takes a lifetime to be a great chef,
Chef Steve is an Iron Chef Contestant and has been a chef for over 22 years. His skills as a chef are amazing and he is one of the most kind hearted individuals I have ever met in my life. He has taught me so much about working in a kitchen, food chemistry, running a kitchen and so much more. One of the ways we introduce Crème-Delish Culinary Powder is through our food truck called More Than Pasta where we provide services to The Woodlands/Spring area. Chef Steve is the head chef and responsible for the recipes, preparation, and the cooking. He has also helped me understand how Crème-Delish Culinary Powder can be used in different recipes, the versatility of the product, as well as its flexibility, Sweet, savory, salty, bitter, or tart, chef Steve has been able to teach me how a product I manufacture can be utilized to raise the culinary game of any chef, baker, mixologist, or home cook. I am truly grateful for the learning experience he has provided and the understanding he has imparted but, most of all, there is nothing that can replace the friendship I have gained by him becoming my business partner.
