We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Marquette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
No real thought process involved. I have had a business since I can remember to offset my income. Being a US Merchant Marine when I wasn’t shipped out I would create items and some times they sold and people always said I should have my own place. To transition to full time all that took was back surgery and retirement. It made sense since I couldn’t work anymore for other people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
my artistic side comes from my late Mom. So i guess shes in everything i make. i dont know if i have a particular style wouldn’t know how to even begin to categorize my work, progressive maybe. i follow the ole school techniques i was taught and over the decades i melded the new stuff into my work. I see something and my mind will start to see it in a new way changing it reforming it until i see what i like. Ill draw out my concept and from there i will refine it untill i get what i want. Im self taught for the most part, i did a stint at a trade school in the very early 1970s since then its been a ton of books and hands on learning. (no utube back then u actually had to read something) I put my heart into all of my work i dont cheat on materials or construction techniques. im constantly striving to improve on just about everything in my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
you know i really dont have an answer to this. i dont go out anymore havnt in 20 yrs or so so i have no idea whats out there. this city has changed a lot since my youthful days.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Julie and my children Sabrina and Leo, for their patients and love over the decades.
