We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It all started with a simple idea. After I graduated from college from Sam Houston State University with a BBA in Economics, I took a study abroad trip for a couple of months traveling all over south-east Asia. Once I came back home, I knew that I wanted to keep on traveling and create something of my own. I wanted to start my own business. I was not sure in what industry, but I wanted to take risk, learn more about business, and live a life of passion and creativity.

Then one day in particular, I came across a mobile app that allowed users to quickly and simply edit short videos on your phone. I thought it was fascinating and so I went ahead and payed $1.99 to buy it. After that I really started to like making short clips on my own time and just go outside and have fun with it, never realizing that the purchase of this mobile app was about to change my life forever.

I started going around all around the city of Houston and even started traveling to other cities in Texas including, San Antonio and Austin just having fun with the videos I was creating. Then one day I decided to commute to Galveston to film some fun lifestyle videos of myself by setting up a tripod. As I wrapped up the the shoot and once the day was coming to and end, I told myself “You know what I really started to love making videos. I’m sure there’s other people who would love for me to create videos for them. I said one day I will come back to Galveston, and I will be here with my own crew and expensive equipment”

Then, nothing happened for about a month. Until one afternoon I got a phone call from a small business owner who had been seeing my videos online on social media. She asked if I could do a video for a company event she had coming up. I said yes, and that’s when a lightbulb turned on in my head and I said “I could potentially make this a business” and the rest is history.

In the past 3 years, I have worked with really big clients all around the country.

I’ve made videos for car brands, huge corporations in the food and beverage industry, all major US real estate developers, Museusm, Fashion, Indie Films, and in many other industries. (And by the way after that day in Galveston, exactly a year later, I filmed a car commercial for a huge brand nationwide with a crew. It was surreal and an unforgettable experience.)

I quickly learned that the market was going towards video production. I knew every business owner was going to start promotion on social media via video. I saw the trend and I capitalized on it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Today, I have built a six figures video production business as well as a marketing agency in which we help clients achieve all their business goals and attain more success in today’s digital marketing age.

I really get excited to help clients build and execute digital marketing campaigns. I recently have worked with a huge client in the food and beverage industry by creating marketing strategies to gain more market share and get new customers. As well as re-launching their new website with videos and content that I created for them making them more sales through their website.

I am truly passionate about using marketing/video production as a vehicle to positively influence increased sales for my clients.

This journey has not been easy. It takes a lot of hard work, effort, energy, good health, to achieve any level of success. Owning a business and being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, however if you are willing to put in the work the rewards are better than anything else you can experience. I have learned more about business by starting one than by going to business school.

I want to influence other to know that is very important to love what you do, because if you love what you do then you never have to work a day in your life. If you have an idea you want to pursue, do it!!

With my brand, I want to positively influence, people, the masses, the world, the universe to simply do whats right and change the world to be a better place to live in.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to many people that helped me along the way to be where I am today.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my family. My Parents for coming to this country from Monterrey, MX in hopes my siblings and I have a better life. And for pushing me to always strive for excellence.

Also, every friend, every client, and other creators in Houston for motivating to continue this path even though it has not been an easy one.

Lastly, to God! Because I believe that every decision I’ve made has been made through him guiding me towards the right direction and by putting the right people in my path.

A book that also motivated me to see life and business different was “Unscripted: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Entrepreneurship” by M. J. DeMarco. I highly recommend it.
