Meet Miranda Baxter

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Miranda Baxter again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Miranda , we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
Hi! I’m Miranda, but most people just call me The Treat Lady. I’m a local reward based dog trainer.
My passion for dog training was born out of frustration when we adopted an 8-weeks old puppy. Anyone who’s recently added a puppy to their family can probably relate. That “puppy” is about to celebrate his 11th Birthday and has since been immortalized in a tattoo that I’ll carry with me forever.
This April will be the sixth anniversary of Treat Lady Training, LLC. I cannot believe it’s been almost six years since I officially started my business and over three years since my first interview with ShoutoutHTX.
My primary focus is still in-home dog training, since that’s where most of the behavior issues occur. Plus, dogs learn better in their home environment, where they feel safe and more confident. Most of us and even our kids, act different outside of the home; dogs do, too.
My hope is always to teach the humans how to communicate their wants to their dog. By focusing on being proactive and teaching the dog what the family wants them to do instead of reacting to what went wrong.
I try every single day to make myself a better dog trainer and person, through education and by surrounding myself with better people and trainers than myself.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Since we last spoke there has been a lot going on!
A recurring theme I saw in my trainings was the lack of information available to pet patents about the importance of proper nutrition and the effects it has on a dog’s behavior. From hyperactivity, to personality changes, your pet’s nutrition can have a huge impact on their daily lives, behavior and health.
With this in mind, I partnered with my good friend, and fellow dog trainer, Tiffany Emig at Enchanted Ranch. We opened a boutique pet store containing only the hand picked, carefully curated, proven items, that we personally believe in and give to our own pets.
Many of these items you won’t find in other pet stores. We offer a variety of frozen, as well as freeze-dried, air-dried and standard dry foods, treats & supplements. We also carry the leashes, harnesses and other training tools we find to work the best.
I even collaborated with another local small business, Lone Wolf Pet Products. With their help, I was able to create my own leash, the Miranda Leash, which we sell at our store.
I hope to focus on continuing education this year and obtain my Fear Free Animal Trainer Certification. I’m also excited to attend the Association for Professional Dog Training conference in Virginia with fellow dog trainer and mentor, Misty Mills of Lotus Canine Companions.

Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.
