We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique L Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef Monique, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is character, your character can make or break you! You have to be honest with yourself first, before anyone else.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
“I honestly hit the lotto of culinary expertise, being that I was born into a family of gourmet chefs, (in their own right and professionally) What sets me apart from other vegan chefs is I take pride in creating my own non soy mock meats. Taking simple wholesome ingredients.. and creating masterpieces is definitely all worth being proud of! I am where I am today because I set a standard, I’m typically not a trend follower. I always try to be ahead of game. What I want the world to know is I will definitely change how veganism is viewed by those who don’t subscribe to this lifestyle one bite at a time!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city of Houston are Buffalo bayou and Midtown, the vibe I get from those particular places are unmatched!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my husband, Kahlil Muhammad. Without him encouraging me.. taking full responsibility of the operations (mechanical) of Duality Vegan Cafe.. a lot of things would not be possible! My cousin, Amirah (Perry) Muhammad, the other half of Duality(Pastry) for the saving me more times than I can count, and for agreeing to take this wild ride of building legacy with me!
