We had the good fortune of connecting with Myriam Bravo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Myriam, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Working behind the chair really opens your eyes to the different life stories that I get to listen to and sometimes be apart of. I love that I have the ability to make people feel better about their appearance as vain as that sounds. As demanding as it is to run a business I get to make opportunities to spend time with my family.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been doing hair for about 14 years since I graduated high school. With in those years I did take a year break from hair but I couldn’t stay away. I went back to college to get my instructors license when I met Anne. I told her about my job that i wasnt happy and told me about the shop she works for so I applied. Kieu hired me I worked for her for about two years when she told us she was selling the salon and asked if we’d be interested. At the same time I found out I was pregnant with my first baby I didn’t want to waste the opportunity so we took it. It was long process to find lenders and the paperwork was endless. I even had to fill out paperwork while I was in hospital in labor. Our first year was pretty rough we bought the salon close to the end 2019 so you can imagine how hard it was during the shutdown. Thankfully we were able to open afterwards. We currently attending college again we’re in the process on getting our barbers license we want to expand on our services and offer more.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them depending on the time of year I’d take them to Galveston Beaches, Moody Gardens, the Museum of Natural Science, Discovery green during the holidays is the best. I love eating at Carrabbas and Fortune in Texas city is so delicious.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my business partner Anne Brooks if I haven’t met her I wouldn’t be in this position. I would also like to give Kieu La and Hieu Ngo a shout out for giving us this opportunity. We wouldn’t have gotten this far without them. Last but not least I would love to give a shout out to my husband Juan Pablo Bravo for believing in me and for supporting me.
