We had the good fortune of connecting with NaConda Frank and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NaConda, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I began homeschooling my children, I would get caught in the endless web of where to find resources, where to find the BEST resources, and mostly wondering if I was doing the right thing. There was so much information online regarding home education that it made things hard to answer some of the questions I had. At the time, I did not know of any families personally that educated their children at home so there was no one I could reach out personally. I am a natural “helper”, so once I became more comfortable in our journey I felt like I could reach out to extend a helping hand to those families who were in the same boat I had been in. Back then, I had no knowledge of there being such a thing as a home education consultant or coach until I came across a Facebook group. That’s when I knew that a business could be made based on all of the questions people sent and asked me regularly.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are so many homeschool “experts” out there. I remember coming across this as I began my family’s home education journey. They recommend curriculum options and resources that works best for their family, so I felt like I was doing something wrong when those options didn’t work for my own family. One thing that sets me apart as a home education consultant/coach is that I offer unbiased options & resources for families. When I consult with my clients, I make a point to understand their family situation as well as how their children learn best. This is so I can recommend the most appropriate professional opinion to their family. Another way I am set apart from other homeschool consultants & coaches is that I advocate mental health along with home education. I manage my own mental health while educating my kids at home and it can be cumbersome! If you only see picture-perfect homeschool journeys online then you are prone to thinking you are doing something wrong when you are really doing the best that you can for your situation. I let my clients and followers know this and provide encouraging reminders that they are not alone on this journey! I am excited to finally have an online platform that allows me to reach families all over the US and even the world! Some of my Facebook followers are homeschoolers located in Africa and they have been helped by the resources & guidance that I share online. Because many clients and followers look to me for my mental health & homeschool advocacy, I have created a safe space where these home educators can come to for a more intimate level of coaching & consulting. My mastermind “The Hope-full Homeschool Mom Mental Health Mastermind” offers free & paid levels of service. The reason I am so proud of this new mastermind is because it is forcing me to hold myself accountable and share my struggles so that others may be encouraged. Mental health is something that is not talked about much in the homeschool community and I want to start that conversation & make it normal! Constant & persistent social media presence is the reason my business is where it is now. It is definitely not easy! As an introvert & empath I become exhausted putting myself in front of others and simple being present online. I overcome these challenges by taking constant breaks from social media. In order to stay relevant and present in my absence, using a social media post scheduler has been a life-saver! Along this journey I have learned that being vulnerable is hard, however my motivation is knowing that my story & encouragement will help someone in the end! My brand offers unbiased & nonjudgemental home education support with an emphasis on promoting mental health. These can be touchy subjects to manage. My personal & professional knowledge allow me to give my clients an unforgettably encouraging experience that reminds them they are not alone on their homeschool journey!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city of Lake Jackson offers quite a few attractions! There are so many smaller adjacent cities to visit as well! For a family-friendly experience, I would recommend visiting the Lake Jackson Historical Museum and the Freeport Historical Museum. Both local museums frequently change their exhibits and keep the community engaged in them as well. Lake Jackson is also home to Sea Center Texas, a marine development, aquarium, & education center. Brazoria County’s slogan “Where Texas Began” sends the message of the historical relevancy of the area. There are many historical sights to visit in the area as well. Lake Jackson is also less that 30 minutes from Surfside Beach, so your family can enjoy fun in the sand & water! Many of my mornings are fueled by coffee & homemade goodies from Brew ‘n Bake. El Toro’s, The Local, Swamp Shack, and La Sirenita Seafood N Grill (Freeport) are just a few of the local restaurants we enjoy dining at. My husband and I enjoy getting out without the kids, too! When you are a home educator you will find that most of your day is spent with your children and you definitely need an outlet sometimes! For our after work downtime, we frequent The Cork Lounge, a local boutique wine lounge specializing in Texas wines and treats. These establishments all offer great service & friendly crowds.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Aside from the continuous encouragement & support from family, my fellow co-authors of the three-time Amazon best-selling book “African American Homeschooling Mompreneurs” served as my support system as I transitioned into birthing the idea of becoming a home education consultant. We were connected via the Facebook group we were in & the rest is history! This close-knit group of sisters gave me the push I needed to execute the vision I was given. So, thank you ladies! All 11 of you!
