We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I honestly did not ever expect myself to pursue this career while growing up. I had always imagined myself going into the medical field and becoming a nurse or doctor. By my senior year of high school that all changed, I became very fond of baking and went on to attend to Culinary school. While attending college, I had watched many videos on decorating cookies and decided to try them out. I ended up really loving it and here I am today owning my own small business. Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
The Purrfect Sweets is a home-based bakery that makes custom decorated cookies for all occasions. What sets me apart from others is the attention to detail and love that I put into creating every order. What I am most proud of is how much my business has grown since I first began in March of 2018. The feedback I receive from my customers about the beauty and taste of my cookies always warms my heart and makes every late night worth it. I’m excited to see what the future holds for my business. I don’t think owning a business is ever truly easy, there are always new challenges to face. My business faced a slowdown due to the pandemic coupled with the challenges of relocating to a new city. However I’ve learned to persevere and never give up. I’m overcoming that slowdown through rigorous advertising and word of mouth from my wonderful customers. I want the world to know that they can chase their dreams. Owning a business has always been my dream. I’ve found a talent that I love and enjoy, and with the recognition and support of my customers, I’m making my dream come true.Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they visited during Rodeo season I would definitely treat them to that. They could try out the delicious carnival food, experience the livestock show and attend a concert. On a different day we could go to the museum district. We could gaze at art in the Museum of Art, or check out the butterfly exhibit at the Museum of Science. I would then take them to Kura Sushi to experience the revolving sushi bar. The next day we could ride bikes and have a picnic at Buffalo Bayou Park or Discovery Green. We could go to Tout Suite for amazing desserts. The following day I would take them out shopping at the Galleria, we could even go ice skating! Afterwards we could grab some dessert at the Sprinkles cupcake vending machine. I absolutely would not let them leave town without trying my favorite restaurant, a locally owned spot called George’s Pizza and Italian Cuisine. Everything is made fresh and they have the best fried mushrooms!Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt my fiancé and family have been my greatest supporters since day one. I would not be where I am today without their love and support. In fact, it was my fiancé who came up with my business name. Of course I can’t forget my wonderful customers, without them I wouldn’t be able to follow my passion.
