We had the good fortune of connecting with Natausha Slaughter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Natausha, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I offer services that help individuals better position themselves for career opportunities by providing resume & cover letter writing services, proven interview techniques, helpful ways to identify and strengthen their personal brand, and so much more.
Also, I help small business owners create strategies that will give them leverage in the marketplace by delivering services that focus on business start-up, administrative and operational support, marketing strategies, brand management, human resources, and team building activities.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In April of 2010, I decided to leave a successful 21-year career in the restaurant industry. I’m a true believer that when your passion for something is no longer there, it’s time to move on. Mark Twain once said, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” About a year into my sabbatical, I enrolled in Bible school, and it was during this time that I had an aha moment. I realized that I had something to give my community, city, country, and world. A way to help individuals improve their chances of landing interviews, gain employment, receive promotions, and transition into new careers. On July 14, 2011, Total Package Interview Coaching Service was born!
While it was not without challenges, this year will make 10-years we’ve been in business. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 20% of small businesses fail in their first year, and about 50% of small businesses fail in their fifth year. To know that most small businesses do not make it, I’m beyond grateful.
I’ve learned so many valuable lessons throughout the years, but the most important lesson learned was the importance of evolving. Evolution is necessary to remain relevant in this constantly changing marketplace.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city:
Breakfast—First Watch
Lunch—Bibo’s Bistro & Bar Dinner-Morton’s Steak House
Brunch—Taste Bar + Kitchen
Spa Services—Facials & Beyond in Humble, TX
Hangout/Entertainment & Fun—Dave & Busters, Galleria for shopping, Painting with a Twist, and Phil & Derek’s.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It is true, “No man is an island”–John Donne. No one is successful without the help and support of others. I believe that no one is “self-made” because we all need others to succeed. I’m truly grateful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for never allowing me to give up, quit or cave in, but if you only knew. He has shown me that the swiftest person does not always win the race, nor the strongest man of the battle, and that wise men are often poor, and skillful men are not necessarily famous; but it is all by chance, by happening to be at the right place at the right time. (Ecc 9:11–Living Bible) Not only does it take a village to raise a child(ren), but it takes a village to have a successful business. I certainly would not have been in business for 10-years without the support of so many. Thank God for my village: daughters Trenisha Mouton and Tori Slaughter, friend and sister Jada Gilbert, Spiritual Mom Dr. Pamela Randolph, Attorney Christy Brown-Moton, Dr. Marina McLean, all of my clients, and everyone who travels to conferences/speaking engagements to support me.
