We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Leatherwood, Jake Leatherwood and Nathan Cribley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, Jake & Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
SITTING POOLSIDE WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS, LOOKING AROUND AND SEEING ALL THE BRIGHT COLORS, STARING AT THE GUY WALKING AROUND WITH A BANANA PRINT SWIM SET – AN IDEA STARTED TO BREW.
KNOWING WE WERE HITTING THE LINKS THE NEXT MORNING, WE THOUGHT, ‘WELL IF OUR GOLF GAME ISN’T GREAT THEN OUR GOLF ATTIRE BETTER BE’.
WE WANTED SOMETHING BOLD, FUN, AND COLORFUL TO ADD TO ALL THE GREEN ON THE COURSE – SOMETHING EYE CATCHING WITH THE MOST BREATHABLE/COMFORTABLE FIT.
SUGAR CADDY CAME TO LIFE!
OUR BRAND IS SOMETHING THAT YOUR AVERAGE WEEKEND HACK, TO LOCAL SCRATCH GOLFER CAN WEAR. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS FROM DATE NIGHT, HANGING OUT BY THE POOL, OR EVEN ON THE BACK PATIO. THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!
A LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS OUT OF KATY, TEXAS CREATED BY A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS THAT LOVES TO HAVE FUN, AND STAND OUT EVERYWHERE WE GO… THESE ARE THE PLACES IN WHICH OUR POLOS WERE BORN TO BE WORN IN.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
All of us work in different industries from oil and gas, financial, and landscape. We wanted to do something that would bring us together that we could rely on instead of working so much for corporate companies. Something that was going to be fun, something that even on the weekends wouldn’t feel like sitting behind a desk. Sugar Caddy has given us all of that and more. Keeping our corporate jobs has given us another avenue to work with corporate companies in designing their own personal threads! We will take any logo or design someone may have and pair with our tailored fit and fabric to make their looks sweet. Sugar Caddy is a brand for everyone, everywhere, at anytime.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone was visiting it depends on what month. If they were visiting during spring and the rodeo was going on we would definitely want to show them the Houston rodeo. There is always something about showing an out of stater a horse, it’s like they don’t know they are real until they visit Texas. Also would take them to a small BBQ shop in Katy called Brett’s BBQ, it’s amazing and you can’t find it elsewhere. During the day we would hit either meadowBrook farms golfclub, Wildcat Golf Course or Memorial Park. Since we are Katy based, we would end the evening eating at Pearl and Vine, following by 2-stepping at Whiskey River. We usually host after party’s ourselves so we’d end up staying up until about 3 am then grab some good ol Whataburger to end the night!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We wouldn’t have our custom designs without our lead designer Adex Sáizar! He helps bring our ideas to life.
