We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Remembering that every fiber of my business is built on love. Since I was a little girl I’ve watched the elders of my family create recipes and cook from scratch. And every meal, during holidays or on random family-filled weekends, was made with love and surrounded by people we love. Naturally, I wanted to create my own pocket of love that I could share with others. Because of this mindset I’ve been able to cater to so many amazing people.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Everyone always asks, “Are you Lauren?” And my response is… No. (lol). Lauren’s confectionery is named after my last born niece – Lauren Ava. I named my business after my youngest niece because she is a ray of sunshine for me. As a child she embodies all that my values my company is built on – love, joy, personality and drive. I toyed around with names the first few years that I decided to take a leap on faith and nothing stuck until she was born. Now, 5 years later and my business is thriving. She’s my “lucky charm”!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my! As a fairly new resident in Houston I’d have to say the following itinerary would be my go to:

Saturday brunch at The Honey Hole
Saturday quick dinner at Yo-yo’s food truck
Sunday brunch at Travelers Table
Sunday day party… anywhere
Tuesday live band at Dbar
Tuesday R&B at Urban social
Thursday dinner at fig & olive
Friday happy hour at H bar

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my success to all of those that I’ve encountered during my journey. The people who were not quite as satisfied because they taught me how to become better. The people who have been satisfied and return because they taught me the art of confidence in an already saturated field. The mentors and educators who taught me the art of craft because that taught me how to be persistent and to persevere.
