We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey to becoming an artist began as a young child. I always had a passion for photography & I fell in love with the idea of creating something with the camera. I pursued a career in Healthcare Administration but reached a crossroads and wondered where my professional journey would go next. In that season of waiting, I purchased my first DSLR camera. I captured everything under the sun but I loved capturing nature-related scenes, avoiding anything to do with people. In an effort to improve my craft, I started taking self portraits. I photographed myself, because I was the only one I felt comfortable confronting or speaking with (outgoing introvert problems lol). I committed to taking portraits of myself for several hours a week until I felt comfortable enough in front of and behind the camera. After months of practicing, I gained enough confidence to share that portrait on social media. That one post opened the door to endless photography opportunities and that’s how She Shoots Photography was birthed. I didn’t have a goal or a business plan but I had God and I knew HE had a purpose for my life. My passion of helping people plus my love for photography was the reason I decided to step out on faith and turn my hobby into a profession.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I got into the photography business after posting a self portrait on social media. My friends & family started requesting my photography services and that’s how I got to where I am today. It wasn’t easy because I was not confident enough to promote myself and I was fearful that I didn’t have enough knowledge or skills to get started. After shooting everyday and building up my portfolio I was able to overcome my fears and pursue photography full time. The She Shoots Photography brand has a unique & fun way of using light and color in a collaborative approach to my subjects. I also take pride in the connection with my subjects and my ability to make anyone feel comfortable in front of the lens.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love everything about my city but the food is my favorite. Id take my bff to all of my favorite eating spots which include Frenchy’s Chicken, #1 Chicken & Rice, The Turkey Leg Hut, Burn’s BBQ , & Crab Station just to name a few.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First & foremost I want to thank God because without Him none of this would be possible. I also want to thank my clients, family, friends, & church family for the constant love and support they show me on a daily basis. Lastly, I want to send a special shoutout to my husband & my daughter for being my biggest encouragers and for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
