We had the good fortune of connecting with NijaAshley Dalton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NijaAshley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly there was very little thought when it came starting my business; since a kid all I have ever wanted to do was to do hair. I won’t make the statement and say that I was never good at anything else but hair been my passion since I can remember literally. It was only natural that I opened a beauty salon and expand on my birth purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from other current businesses today in my industry is that I am rooted and dedicated to my career; it has never been about the money for me. I honestly and genuinely love what I do. I am proud of the fact that I organically built my business on honesty and morals. I am excited to see my business continue to grow because I know that this is only the beginning everyday my mind is blown on how far I’ve come. Nothing worth having comes easy and this career is beyond worth having so it was not easy at all. I stayed focused and had faith that the seed my God has planted in me would grow; I won’t lie and say that there weren’t times that I didn’t want to throw in the towel but I knew and still know that this is my purpose. If i can do this anyone can I tell myself everyday that i can literally have any and everything I put my mind to.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off I would like to give my biggest shoutout to my God because there is absolutely no way possible I would have made it this far in my career. There are few people who I owe thanks to my first mentor ever Kay Simpson I would like to thank her for giving me tough skin early in my career and teaching me the foundation of the hair industry. I would like to thank Toya K my mentor as well; I appreciate her for praying for me before even knowing who I was as well as always being one phone call away and pushing me. I would like to shoutout Fonda Campbell for pushing me and never allowing me to say no if it wasn’t for her I would have never opened my salon. Lastly I would like to shoutout my mom Sonya Dalton and bestfriend Charsheika Keller for getting on this roller coaster career with me and cheering me on even when I know they weren’t to sure about this ride.
