We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikkeii Chevelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikkeii, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I love taking risks and pushing the envelope!! I feel like taking risk builds strength, character and confidence because you are able to see yourself in an encouraging light and it gives you the ability and opportunity to engage outside of your comfort zone!! For myself when I first started posting videos and pictures as a larger body influencer it was about being representing women who looked like me online. To be able to represent and create a presence of larger bodies that didn’t fit the “plus size” model aesthetic. With every video and picture I posted I wasn’t always greeted with love and respect. So taking the risk of putting myself out there and being consistent with filling a gap in the online community by representing larger bodies like mine wasn’t easy. I’m glad I can share my unique perspective with others.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally I can feel overwhelmed with the constant requirements to create and produce content for all of my social media sites. It is such a high demand because I want to ensure that I am always putting out quality content for my audience. As well as continuing to rescale the marketing portion of my socials as a brand ambassador for numerous clothing and makeup brands. I’d say professionally I keep pretty busy finding new and innovative ways to repurpose my personal brand, eluding the mutiny of becoming stagnant and mundane.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wilmington has a lot to offer as far as historical significance that many people aren’t aware of (Wilmington Riot of 1968). I would definitely take them around to the historical sites here. Also depending on the time of year they come allow them to see how the city comes alive during our Azalea Festival season. We have several beaches so I’ll definitely take them to enjoy that.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shortout my mom Tracy!!! She walked in a room and her energy commanded respect and love! She was always there for those that she loved and never met a stranger! She showed me that just being who you are is all that is needed, nothing more and nothing less. People are going to be people but always stay true to who you are and those that’s for you will find you.
