We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Uvalles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I began to see the years of neglect in our grandmothers and mothers an awakening started within me to turn in a new direction in my career and my life. Putting myself in their shoes of over-giving, sacrifice, and neglect of health started a fire for this narrative to change. We can all look back at the years that have passed when women were lower on the totem pole, not taken seriously when they speak up and pushed aside when they ask for support. Now that I have reached maturity, as some would say, my health and longevity are vitally important and I value living a life free to choose and open to change. There are many cultures that support women. These women are joyful, feel needed and fulfilled without the burnout, overwhelm and breakdown of their physical bodies. If it’s doable, why is it not happening in America?
There was a gut instinct that I needed to work for myself and start that entrepreneur shift in my career. Pivoting yet again as a licensed bodyworker and supported by an entrepreneurial drive, my passion shifted into nutrition and self-care for the body. As a mom of 3 boys and living in a house full of men, I honor their thrill for life and energy. It allows me to be encouraged to stay healthy and always question what I’m choosing to put in my body. My mantra is, “Your body is a temple, you are the one living in this temple, so it is your job to care for it and to live life to the fullest.”
Three years ago One Body Wellness was formed. Something new aligned in my work, “Your thoughts impact feelings and your feelings impact your thoughts.” Only when we are ready to step up to our true desires will changes occur and the path we journey on begins to feel smooth. I learned to step away from judging my feelings and accept them as an energy that can be moved and not settle into the body causing pain.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Life is a bumpy and unpredictable road, but what has changed my recent journey is how I react to the valleys and hills. It’s not common to celebrate little wins and I now incorporate personal celebrations that motivate and push me to keep going. We also are not meant to do this thing called “life” alone. It is not up to us to do everything and when I fall in a valley, I reach out for support, comfort and guidance. This is coming from a vulnerable space, to say, “I need support”, but it’s empowering for all involved when we reach the top again. Decisions can be one of the struggles and causes that derail us from goals or expectations. When I center and ground myself in the truth that God shares with us every day, I can feel support in the choices that no matter what, the outcome is to bring me to a new place. Change is also difficult but with change comes transformation and I always use a butterfly to remind me of how beautiful change can be.
One Body Wellness was developed from the prevalence of disconnection in our society. By supporting stressed, anxious and overworked women towards reconnecting their internal guidance system, they can live a holistic and healthy life inside and out. When we are imbalanced in any area of the mind, body or soul, life just always seems to feel heavy, overwhelming and a balancing act that can never be won. By supporting women in this way, I am able to create a safe container for them to grow, even transform their lives and allow that to overflow to all areas such as work, family and their community. When a woman is empowered she naturally embraces changes and brings everyone with her for the ride. It’s a beautiful act to connect, collaborate and co-create life and women by our very nature, are connectors and nurturers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The very first thing I would do is schedule a spa day. I love to experience life from the lense of full sensory so a massage, facial, mani/pedi or even sitting in a float spa. Next I would have a variety of restaurants to choose from, even tough we are known for our meats and BBQ there is such diverse choice there would be a different place each day. I absolutely enjoy museums and would give her first pick. I would take the trip out to Belleville and visit the castle as well as down to Galveston and walk on the boardwalk. The Woodlands would be next for some amazing shopping. Before she left I owuld again schedule some spa time her choice making sure she didn’t want to leave.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Laura Wieck responded to the intuitive call to create the BodyMind method. It was divine timing for me to stumble across her creation and I jumped head first into the work. We are both impacting the social construct of what health gets to look like for women.
