We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikol Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikol, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Real Talk Chronicles TV Talk Show because I wanted to provide a platform for ordinary people to voice their opinions and give upcoming entertainers an opportunity to showcase their talents but more importantly to have open discussions about social issues that affect our communities and the lives of others!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nikol J is a soul writer! She writes from the heart with the intentions of provoking thoughts! Her writings are intriguing and influences the audience to visualize, embrace the messages. Her penmanship allows the art of story telling to motivate, change people’s perspectives. Nikol found her first love in high school thanks to Ms.Logan, an English teacher at the infamous, George Washington Preparatory High School of Los Angeles, CA. She would always say, “you’re going to be a writer some day!” Of course, Nikol didn’t believe It! Until, the end of 1996 rolled around and Nikol J. joined a ghost writer’s team that happened to be writing scripts for famous TV shows like the Jamie Foxx and DL Hughley shows. Money was plentiful and the perks of Hollywood was everything but Nikol had no TV credits or any real control over her writing career. Doors begin to close just as fast as they opened and she couldn’t handle the rejection. Nikol eventually gave up on writing and the wonderful world of entertainment! 2001, she packed her bags, moved to Texas, and established a career in government. By 2009, the passion for writing could no longer be denied. Nikol released here first short film, “Exposed”. The script fell in the hands of a TV Producer at the Houston Media Source. The TV producer was fascinated by the talented writer and immediately begin looking for avenues to introduce Nikol J to the city of Houston. 2016, Nikol launched Real Talk Chronicles TV Talk show. She appeared as the TV host on several local and PBS channels in Houston. Not to mention, Nikol wrote the content for every show! Your host with the most fell back in love with writing. She joined BWIF and co-wrote 3 short films. It hasn’t been an easy journey but it has been a learning experience. A good experience! Because no matter what, if it’s meant to be, it will be! Nikol is living a dream come true, a FilmLife and loving every minute of it! She hopes to be remembered for never giving up on her gift from GOD. Nikol has started a reality series called, FilmLife to capture the life of filmmakers on and off camera! She understands the struggles of being a filmmaker and the importance of never giving up!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is fun, interesting and there are so many things to see and do! Capture the city’s elegance, check out the social scene, and grab an affordable, decent meal at the Grand Lux in the Galleria area! Do you want to have pure fun? Try karaoke night at the Christian Tailgate in the Heights or catch a laugh or two at the Houston Improv. If you want the country living or history experience go horseback riding or visit the Buffalo soldier museum! I like looking at fine art so I grab some snacks and head to the Winter Street Studios, #6 is my favorite! Now, if shopping is your thing the Woodlands Mall is the place to be plus it’s surrounded by the Marketplace that offers more shopping and excellent restaurant choices! Night life at the movies, Deerbrook AMC cozy, friendly staff and great atmosphere! Before closing, I can’t forget my dancing shoes, let’s go to the House of Blues Downtown live band and standing dancing room! If you really want to let your hair down and partyI have a good time at the Belvedere Lounge, drinks and class always makes fun! Because it’s nothing like a good old hole in the wall. Listen to the live band, dance with the locals and eat good ole southern fried foods at the Silver Slipper Nite Club. It may not look the part but it makes the soul happy! Family fun can be spent at Grand Texas Water Park and any Main Event near you!
