We had the good fortune of connecting with Nour Alashqar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nour, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to stay home with my 3 young children, and also to have flexibility in setting my own work hours! I also made killer cake pops and my friends encouraged me to start selling them 😉
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Decorating baked items is art. I have a whole set of brushes, edible pens, paint sets, and tools to help me make every order unique and bring my customers vision to life!
Getting to this point was definitely not easy, and I still make mistakes and learn from each one every day. Sometimes the final product turns out differently from the original plan, but with some improvisation and imagination, the final product eventually turns out great!
I started Nona Pops because I wanted a creative outlet while also having the flexibility of staying home with my young kids, but it quickly turned into a full time job and I am beyond grateful to every person who helped me get to this point!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely visit the museum district and discovery green, eat local food truck grub every day, and plan an entire day to spend at the Turkish farm, where we can grill our own barbecue and eat it by the lake!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list is long! I will start with my children who are my biggest fans and cheerleaders, and my husband who does most of my deliveries! Huge should goes to my amazing assistant, Mervat, who has been my right hand since December of 2021. I would not have been able to get anything done on time if it wasn’t for her hard work!
I would also love to give a shout out to my friends whosw tremendous support helped me stay on track, whether it was by purchasing from my business, recommending me to others, or simply by promoting Nona Pops on social media.
