Meet Nyla Graham | Makeup Artist & MBA Candidate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyla Graham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyla, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has contributed exponentially to the success of my business. There is always risk in starting any business, but imagine taking your established business to a new city and building a clientele from scratch. I always have been told “scared money don’t make money” and that stuck with me. While taking risks can be a scary feeling, fear kills more dreams than failure ever will. I am so glad I took risks throughout my life/career, because it helped me to elevate and reach the success I am experiencing today. Taking risks has given me a priceless college experience and helped me encounter the right people who motivated me to elevate my business. Today, I am currently a MBA candidate and an award-winning MUA at the age of 22. I couldn’t be more thankful for the risks.

By offering makeup application services and premium mink lashes, I unlock the self-confidence in women and help them recognize their beauty. I intricately beat the faces of my clients for an affordable price while offering exceptional customer service. Just because summer is over does not mean you cannot be a HotGirl. HotGirl Beatz: Makeup Artistry by Nyla is in full effect! It has not been a smooth road, but I would say I would not change it one bit. For a long time, I stopped doing makeup because I felt like I lost that spark in myself. Having the motivation to push your business even when it is at its lowest point is hard. Sometimes we need someone to give us that extra push. I thank God for the people in my corner who gave me that extra push to start back. Also, being in the beauty industry, the trends are always changing. Therefore, I’m constantly learning and perfecting my craft. Every face I touch, I strive to be better than before. I strive to ensure all my customers are satisfied. I strive to build relationships and customer loyalty. And to see all my hardworking finally coming to life is really what I’ve been praying for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend visited me, I would definitely take them sightseeing. I enjoy city views and seeing what all a city has to offer. I enjoy museums, and animals, so a zoo or aquarium is always ideal for me. I also love food, which is no surprise because I love to cook. I enjoy going to lounges with good music and good food, so I would definitely check out several of those. I also enjoy shopping a lot, so I would check out different malls.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to give a special shout-out to Ms. Shanesia Abrams. She was my first internship manager and she pushed me to start my business in Atlanta. She has been there for me every step of the way from doing my photoshoots and my websites, to helping me brand my business. I am so thankful for her. I would also like to give a special shout-out to my love, Deonte Kelley. He has supported me so much through my journey and been there every step of the way. That’s my biggest supporter and my personal assistant in one. I couldn’t be more thankful for him. I would also like to give a special shout-out to every client that has sat in my chair, especially my out of town clients. Without them, my business would be nothing. I would also like to give a shout-out to all the people who spoke down on me. Haters have always been my motivators. Last, but most certainly not least, thank you God for always leading the way and blessing me with talent. I am so blessed to have been gifted with an eye for creativity and a mind of hustle and grind.
