We had the good fortune of connecting with Omolara Lawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omolara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I feel like being a entrepreneur is all about taking risk. Taking risk in life will give you a opportunity to learn and build skills in your life. My rule of thumb is that you have to fail to succeed. Taking risk pushes yourself to see how far you can really go. Taking risk was a HUGE factor to starting my business. Taking risk builded my confidence up and opened up doors for me that I didn’t even know I could open. It has taught me that failure is okay and that if something feels to easy to accomplish then it’s not right. In order to succeed in life I learned that you have to be uncomfortable. Being comfortable will only keep you surfaced but it wont allow you to go above where you want to be in life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a artist is what sets me apart from others. It’s a skill being able to sit with my client making that natural genuine connection that not a lot of people can do. Being a Nail Technician is not about just doing nails it’s also about being that person that your client can rely on, vent to and it’s about being that go to person to inspire your client. When clients sit in my chair they immediately open up and feel relief because of the energy I bring to the the table.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being born and raised in Chicago, IL I suggest everyone should try these restaurants in Houston called Soul Good and Lost and found. The vibes are on point and they don’t disappoint!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my family and supporters for believing me and pushing me everyday to focus on my career/journey. I came to my family will a goal and plan and made it come to life. I was always that kid who switched up their long term goals not knowing what I want to do or who I wanted to be when I grew up. It took me years to finally figure it all out but after long nights of thinking, that light bulb of reality turned on. At first doing nails was just another thing I wanted to do but this career touched me different. My mom actually did nails for 30 years so I felt like that talent was already hidden in me, I just had to go get it. I love you guys so much and Zotic Nails couldn’t be what it is today without you guys.
