We had the good fortune of connecting with Orlando Guillen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Orlando, what do you want people to remember about you?
My art! I want my art to stand out from all others and how i used recycled materials to create them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I handcraft 2D and 3D recycled metal mixed media artwork. My artwork represents my love for bringing trash into masterpieces. I handcraft each work from the array of materials I collect. My portfolio is vast, styles and mediums quite varied, but most of my artwork could fall under the categories of metal sculptures. Lately, I’ve been producing large-scale 3-D wall sculptures.Like my metal work, these works are united by the labor-intensive processes involved in their construction: hand-cutting metal forms, welding, torching, cutting metal strips with a cut off wheel, smoothing and sanding rough elements with a metal grinder, hand painting, and finished with car clear. My job allows me to use discarded materials that inspire my work that I produce in unique and often unexpected ways. Each piece of art I produce contains material truly special to me for its ability to tell a story.

I got where I am today from a lot of hard work and my family who supports me.

Nothing is easy, you have to work hard if you want to be successful.

Lessons I have learned is that you practice makes better.

I want the world to know if you keep trying anything is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would probably visit the galleries and fine a food truck nearby.
