We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Lott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Honestly? How much hard work it takes behind the scenes! What people see on the blog or Instagram are the results of the hard work but if you follow my IG stories, then I keep things pretty authentic and real about how a trip is going or how I got up at the crack of dawn to capture that “epic” shot that everyone is after. Additionally, before I work with a sponsoring travel or fitness company, there is A LOT of work that goes into the negotiations and planning of each deal. Don’t get me wrong, I am truly grateful for every opportunity; however, it takes a lot of work with a dash of luck to get to the “glitz and glam” that everyone sees.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In a world full of fear and scripted narratives, I have always chosen to remain candid and authentic. I built my tag line of my blog site to cover the fact that I will always express my own thoughts and opinions for that reason. I have lost deals in the past with companies that wanted me to fib about their travel deal or fitness apparel but if I am not honest with my audience, how can I be honest with myself? I fully hold myself accountable to narrate a sincere narrative on all of my platforms because when it comes down to things, I am responsible for laying the ground work to build the foundation for my own empire. I can not build a strong frame without integrity. In the fitness world there are some really hard days. I get told no 20xs more than I am told yes. I am an average size curvy woman and unfortunately there isn’t a lot of room for that in today’s industry. The “no’s” can be hard and they can get you down quite a bit; however, I take comfort in knowing the amounts of messages I receive via social media from everyday woman who feel inspired by me. It reminds me that my “yes” is out there somewhere. I will always stay authentic to myself and my narrative that I give my audience. After-all, I always aspire to inspire daily.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most of my friends call me “Miss H-Town”. I definitely am very “Houston” through and through so I LOVE the opportunity to show off my city. Growing up with the diverse melting pot that Houston has to offer has shaped a lot of my understandings of other societies in my travels so if someone is visiting me, I feel like I need to capture a bit of that aspect of our city! I would 100% start them off in one of my favorite areas of EADO. I am a lover of graffiti art (I look for it in every city I go to) and EADO has such an eclectic mix of Houston art. It also doesn’t hurt that Tout Suite (one of my fave coffee shops) isn’t too far from there.! Additionally, most people know me for my devotion to Houston sports so a visit to Minute Maid Park (whether in season or not) would have to be on the itinerary. The ballpark also offers stadium tours and that can be a unique perspective for a visitor to see. From a stroll through Memorial Park, taking in the views from the Buffalo Bayou Cistern, sipping coffee from Blonde Biscotti, grabbing a quick bite and drink at Under the Volcano or driving the back roads around Houston traffic to showcase the different demographics of the city, there is so much to show someone about why I may travel a ton but my roots are planted firmly here for now! From NASA to wall art to outdoor trails to great vintage shopping; Houston has something for everyone. Oh and they 100% would not be allowed to leave before having a lunch with me at Niko Niko’s! : )
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am honestly truly appreciative of my female tribe! I have had so many strong female leads in my journey and I would not be here today without them. From friends to former co-workers or bosses to family; I have always had women in my life that I was able to learn from. Most of these people are still in my life and support me where they are able to today. Even a simply sweet text or a social media comment goes such a long way in the world of thoughtfulness with my tribe. We are from all walks of life and continue to lift each other up even when we do not always perfectly see eye to eye. That is true female empowerment….to understand and appreciate the design of another’s crown, instead of dissecting it. Marvel at our differences and learn as to why that makes us all strong and unique in different ways. Also, I would be remiss if I did not clarify that my mother deserves my strongest shoutout. She is single-handedly the reason that I am the strong, tenacious and independent woman that I am today. I would not be here without her raising me with the hard working drive and morals that she instilled in me from a young age.
