We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey towards starting my birth doula business was deeply influenced by personal experiences, including supporting my aunt through a stillborn, becoming a surrogate, and facing challenges during pregnancies. These encounters fueled my passion to assist women, especially those affected by infertility and infant loss, advocating for their right to a physiological birth. My goal is to be a voice for women and help them embrace their divine feminine energy throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

What should our readers know about your business?
My birth doula business is driven by a deeply personal journey and a passion to support women through the transformative experience of pregnancy and birth. What sets me apart is my unique background, having been a surrogate and facing challenges during pregnancies, which ignited my commitment to advocate for women’s rights during childbirth.

I take pride in being a voice for women, particularly those affected by infertility and infant loss, striving to ensure they have the right to a physiological birth. My certification as a doula enables me to represent and guide women, advocating for their choices in a hospital setting where medical interventions can sometimes overshadow personal preferences.

The path to my current business wasn’t easy, marked by personal losses and challenges during my surrogate pregnancy. Overcoming these obstacles required resilience and a deep commitment to my mission. I’ve learned that every birth is a unique journey, and providing unwavering support is crucial. My experiences have taught me the importance of empathetic care and the significance of embracing the divine feminine energy throughout the birthing process.

I want the world to know that my brand is more than a doula service; it’s a commitment to empowering women, celebrating their strength, and ensuring they have a voice in one of life’s most profound experiences. My story is intertwined with the belief that birth is a beautiful, empowering, and unforgettable moment, and every woman deserves the right to choose how she brings her child into the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a delightful start to the week in Houston, we’d begin our culinary journey at La Pasha, reveling in the authentic Middle Eastern flavors. As we explore the Museum District, a day at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston would captivate our senses.

Next, we’d indulge in Tex-Mex delights at El Tiempo and take a leisurely stroll through Buffalo Bayou Park, soaking in the scenic views. A visit to Space Center Houston would then immerse us in the city’s fascinating space exploration history.

Midweek, our culinary adventure would lead us to Brennan’s of Houston for a taste of Creole cuisine, followed by a venture to The Heights for eclectic boutiques and cozy coffee shops. To experience Houston’s diverse palate, dinner at Koi for sushi delights would be a must.

As the week progresses, a night out in the vibrant Montrose district, exploring the local art scene at the Menil Collection, and enjoying live music at The Raven Grill would fill our evenings. We’d conclude the week with a visit to the iconic NASA Johnson Space Center and indulge in a final feast at Killen’s BBQ for some of the best brisket in town.

Throughout this diverse itinerary, I’d ensure we experience the warm hospitality of Houston’s people, the richness of its cultural offerings, and the excitement of its eclectic culinary scene.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and dedicate this shoutout to my husband. Throughout the entire journey of establishing and growing my birth doula business, he has been an unwavering pillar of support. From the initial conception of the idea to the pivotal moment of becoming a certified doula, and through every birth thereafter, he has demonstrated unconditional support and served as my foremost cheerleader. His encouragement and belief in my venture have played a pivotal role in my success, and I genuinely acknowledge that I could not have embarked on this path without his steadfast commitment.
