Hi Patience, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For over 17 years, I dedicated myself to the field of education. My deep passion for fostering learning led me to aspire to create engaging, enriching experiences for students. My goal was to not only enhance their academic curriculum but also to ignite their interest in STEM subjects, potentially sowing the seeds for future career paths.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m really excited about a new addition to BrainBuzzed! BrainBuzzed Mobile STEAM Bus Adventures! The purpose of our BrainBuzzed STEAM Adventure buses is to provide an innovative and immersive mobile learning platform aimed at inspiring and educating students aged 7-16 in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) subjects. Our buses are equipped with interactive labs and project-based activities designed to foster a deep appreciation for STEAM learning.
These mobile classrooms serve to bring STEAM education directly to students, transcending geographical and resource limitations. They are versatile and adaptable, catering to various learning styles, whether students prefer self-directed exploration or teacher-guided instruction.
By taking STEAM concepts beyond the traditional classroom, our buses make learning tangible through hands-on experiments, stimulating design challenges, and creative art projects. Ultimately, the purpose of these buses is to spark curiosity, engagement, and a lifelong passion for STEAM education, equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for future success in these critical fields.
Reflecting on the journey from its inception to its current stage has been truly remarkable. Throughout this process, I’ve gained invaluable insights into various facets including business operations, legal considerations, regulatory requirements, and the intricacies of construction. This experience has been a profound learning opportunity, equipping me with a deeper understanding of the complexities involved and empowering me to navigate future endeavors with greater expertise and confidence.
In the end, I want to leave a legacy and have a significant impact in the lives that we touched in the field of education. In Beyonce’s words, “I was here.”
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were to visit, our agenda would be packed with unforgettable experiences. First and foremost, we’d indulge in some culinary delights! Nothing beats the ambiance of a cozy Mexican restaurant with a charming patio, or the sizzle of a top-notch steakhouse. Next, we’d seize the day with adventures on the lake and off-road trails. Whether it’s cruising on a boat, thrilling jet skiing sessions, or tackling off-road terrains, we’re up for the adrenaline rush. Finally, to unwind and relive the excitement, we’d retreat to the pool for some well-deserved relaxation and reminiscing. Because for me, life is all about embracing every moment with joy, laughter, and love with some nice spirits.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m honored to dedicate my shoutout to two remarkable individuals who have profoundly influenced my journey as an educator. Firstly, I owe immense gratitude to my cousin, Pamela Stewart, whose unwavering passion for education served as a guiding light from my earliest years. Her innovative and captivating teaching methods not only inspired her students but also ignited a fire within me to pursue a similar path. Witnessing her non-traditional yet highly effective approach left an indelible mark on my heart, motivating me to change my college major to education and embark on my own fulfilling career in teaching.
Secondly, I must express my deep appreciation for my college professor, Dr. Renee Akbar of Xavier University of LA, whose exceptional teaching style revolutionized my perspective on education. By inviting us to experience teaching from the vantage point of students, she instilled in us a profound understanding of the learning process. Through her emphasis on project-based learning and departure from traditional classroom norms, she challenged me to view teaching through a dual lens – that of both educator and learner. This invaluable experience shaped my teaching philosophy, leading me to adopt the mantra: “Would I want to be in my own classroom?” This guiding principle continues to drive me to create engaging and student-centered learning environments, ensuring that every student’s educational journey is enriching and rewarding.
