We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrice Purnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my business was and still is to build a foundation that will provide generational wealth to my great great grandchildren’s children. Since I can remember I have always said that I didn’t want to work for anyone and I don’t want my children to have to work for anyone, so this is to give them the foundation they need to build wealth for their families when they get older and the cycle continues.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make homemade candles, incense, and body products such as butter & scrubs. I try to set myself apart by mixing signature scents, providing candle collections such as spiritual candles, massage oil candles, and affirmation candles. I recently just open my very first candle shop and i’ve only been doing this a year. Was this easy, no but I can tell you it took a lot of faith and prayer and this is only the beginning. Learning how to make candles are very strategic because it’s a lot of measurements and different techniques you have to learn with dealing with hearing wax and adding fragrance oil. I overcame most of those challenges by researching and testing product over and over to make sure They were right ready for distribution.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming to visit me, we would spend quality time with nature. As I get older I learn that its the simply things that make me smile and happy. So we love seafood, we would pick up crawfish from a local seafood spot and take them to the park for an amazing evening of food, fun, and laughter. I also enjoy the riverfront downtown call the levee we would definitely spend days out there, talking and brainstorming. Its the quality time that I treasure the most, not the local places in the area we can go.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate the song Thank you for Being a Friend -Andrew Gold, one thing I can say, she is always there when you need her the most. Thank you
