We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Moss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business began with an seven month game plan. I created deadlines that led up to my start date. More specifically, the date it would be official and available for the public.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me aside from others would be my wardrobe. Several of my Santa suits have authentic African fabric attached to capture the essence of the Black culture. I had it shipped to me by a former high school classmate and friend who currently resides in Ghana, West Africa. Each of my suits were custom made by an assembled team, I did not want to be just another guy in a red suit. I chose to be different. I had to stand out. The concept was born while brainstorming to take this Black Santa to the next level. What I am most proud and excited about is the completion and future publication of my first children’s Christmas book. I arrived to where I am today professionally by being dedicated and passionate about the task at hand throughout my employment career.. Each day pushing myself to be better than I was the day before.. Most importantly, being patient, assess before reacting, and leading by example. It was easy for me because it takes a certain type of discipline. Challenges I have faced and overcome by having faith and pushing through. I would always share with my late aunt that no matter what the adversity, as long as you are still here, you will make it! One thing I have learned for certain is your closest friends may not be your biggest supporters. Another lesson I am learning that as you build your brand and business and under certain circumstances the final vision may not be in your immediate reach.. I want the world to know that I am enthusiastic about the joy and happiness I have to share. I also want the world to know that the Black Santa EFX brand is pure. My story is genuine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not much for the social scene these days. However If I were to show a best friend on the town in Houston, I’d start with breakfast at one of the most hip spots around called The Breakfast Klub. Then take a short drive through the museum district leading us for a morning walk in Hermann Park. I would spend time showing them around the Museum of Natural Science, Fine Arts Museum. Visiting those two would be enough for the day. A quaint cup of coffee at SLOWPOKES in the Heights would be ideal. Next we would hang out visiting NASA and the San Jacinto Monument. That day we would head out to Kemah. Texas, for seafood. There are plenty of exciting things to do around Houston. A stroll down Galveston’s Seawall Boulevard would be nice. Then ferry over to Port Bolivar for a day on the beach. The nightlife is sure to deliver at Houston’s hottest new entertainment rooftop venue called RISE located in the heart of Midtown. Houston is well known for is diversity is culinary delectables. You cannot go wrong choosing a fare that would delight your palate. Then there are the Arts with world class performance’s delivered by the finest in ballet, opera, and the symphony to name a few. I am certain either organization would produce something that would mesmerize your adventurous side..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my Aunt Juanita J. Scott, She’s my number one cheerleader. My aunt has offered her love, support, but most important her sewing talents to help me build and create my Black Santa persona.
