We had the good fortune of connecting with Phyllis Estoria Skipper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phyllis Estoria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was due to a friend who had passed away years ago from breast cancer. Her husband was in the trucking industry for 30 years. He wanted his own company considering he had many trucks. The business started being established based on a conversation with him. We named the business Elaine Transportation LLC because it was her middle name. As years went by, I then named the business my middle name Estoria since it was my grandmother’s first name. Been in this industry for 3 years since 2019 until 2023. Since June 2022, I started school and obtained my CDL.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of how, me being a female, was able to run a male dominant business which I juggled many tasks such as assisted in dispatching, payroll, keeping up with the yearly renewals, documentation, keeping brokers in the loop whenever they call or I initiated the call…… I must say, it was alot of work.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to City Center and hang out in the courtyard. My favorite spot there is Yardhouse. Then I would take them to The Gripper located in Pearland. On Wednesday, we would go to one of my most favorite dessert spot which is The Funnel Cake in which I always get the strawberry shortcake or peach cobbler. Thursday, we would go The Warwick. They have a nice vibe. Friday and Saturday, it will be party time/turn up so we would definitely hit up 5015. They have good food and the vibes are everything.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my friend Cecil Pratt for introducing me into the business.. He was in the business for 30 years and had great knowledge about the industry. His wife/my friend passed away and he has coached me through the whole process of how to learn the industry. Shoutout to my drivers whom I hired and developed a friendship as well as many others who made the business of what it is today.
