We had the good fortune of connecting with Precious Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Precious, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’m a mother of three, and a family of five. I love to cook and keep them entertained while making memories. I started posting to social media in 2011 when I went to college and everyone liked how I would dress and/or cook. Once I had my first two kids I would get many compliments on how I keep my kids up, from their hair, their style, and academics. After receiving so many questions and also growing a bigger passion for social media I decided to start my YouTube Channel “PeeMadeFamily. October of 2019” For me the YouTube channel helped me save the memories I enjoy creating and answer my friends/family’s questions about how to ! Initially I was scared to make a family channel, I just wanted to sew and do hair videos, but my kids showed a big interest in being on camera and I went for it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well I’m a Lifestyle Content Creator/YouTuber. I document moments in my life and I like to keep it as real as possible. I don’t like to make anything feel like a script. I also love to show off my Cajun recipes. I grew up in the kitchen in New Orleans, Louisiana with my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother giving me all the tips and tricks on how to get the perfect flavor for every meal. It feels good to have the skill to cook a big meal with a lot of flavor, and sharing it with others is a plus. My humbleness sets me apart for others. The things I’ve done in the past and the rooms I’ve been invited into recently could make someone not as humble as me really cocky, but I know things that big are a blessing and it should be appreciated with a quality attitude. I am most excited to see where I take my family in the future. We are all so talented and have great ideas. We just need the right doors to open for us to perform. To get where I am today it took consistency! I know everyone says this but it’s true. I didn’t see much movement in my numbers on YouTube when I didn’t actively post, promote and seek knowledge on it all. I even started to feel more like a content creator by being consistent. It’s like I worked this hard to get here, to get these numbers, this is a great feeling no one can take away. It was not easy and Imposter Syndrome is real. I overcame these challenges by appreciating others content without trying to become them. I do my best work when I’m genuinely being me. The biggest lesson is to stay consistent by showing up for me, my brand, daily. The consistency shows others I am serious and it keeps my YouTube channel thriving with daily views. I want the world to know that I’m educated and I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology, that I love to work in my field and I’ve held great jobs. I chose to use my education to raise my two youngest kids at home until they turned four. I remember being so good at my jobs and seeing others do the bare minimum and wondering if I could be bigger, create and do more. I wanted to find my creative side and I would pray about this. God placed me on YouTube and at home with my kids. I developed a brand by doing this, a black mom who loves her kids, praises God and was raised twerking and eating crawfish in the 90s exist!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m very new to Houston and honestly I’ve only eaten at three places so far, Pappadeauxs, The Catch and Captain Crawfish. I’m still in tourist mode, I think I’ll forever be in tourist mode Houston is huge and beautiful I’m honestly in love. I’m so happy to be here I’ll go anywhere once. I do follow a couple creators on Instagram that go to different locations and share their experience so that would most likely be my go to for choosing a spot. Or if I’m feeling myself we can just park and walk and let our nose choose.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My man my man ! (Lol) He’s always believed in me and helped change my atmosphere to encourage my growth. When I met him I told him I didn’t want to be in Louisiana long and he agreed, we moved to Texas not much later. Right before that he had transformed our living room into my little YouTube studio with my sewing table and lights. He would tell all of his friends and family how I was going to grow on YouTube, he was always happy for my success. Even with the kids, if they get out of hand while I’m creating he talks to them and explains how important it is I execute my content in a good way with good vibes. I really appreciate him! I was in a space of trying to find me when I met him and he always reminded me he saw me and that was all I needed to be.
