We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Rosas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I honestly had no idea what I was doing. I was so nervous because all I was used to was a 9-5 job. I have to give some credit to my boyfriend. Whom is an entrepreneur himself and has a storefront ‘American Hairlines Barbershop’. He has pushed me so far. He is what enlightened this fire within me. I started off as a small business vendor. Which I was then called ‘ Mont Vintage & Apparel’. I did everything from tie-dying clothing, making my own merchandise, etc. I started doing pop-up events, networked and made a lot of new connection and followings. I then built the confidence to start coordinating my own markets & boy let me tell you, its been a successful journey!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, it all started back in 2020. I started up my own vintage boutique shop. I would create clothing, tie-dye clothing, and I would go thrifting to resale in my boutique. It was fun and a lot of work at times, but never was I bored, I’ll tell you. I was doing that for about a year or so, and noticed I was meeting a lot of great people from all over Houston. I was a vendor at The Montrose Market, and I’ll never forget meeting a customer and her telling me “you’d be a great market host, your personality and character is like no other, you should really consider it”, after she said that, I really thought about it and I said ” you know what, I think I just might”. I had a couple small business friends follow me and still till this day, I can name some loyal vendors who are still rocking with me. I think me being who I am, sets me apart from other hosts, coordinators, etc. When I meet someone, I give them my all, because I truly believe first impressions last a lifetime. I love the people I work with, meet and am able to engage in. Everyone has a story and I’m always down to listen. What makes me proud and excited, is when new small business vendors reach out to me, ask me for help in starting up their business and within a couple months, they are fully flourished with a great following. It makes me really proud to see, they started off with me at my markets and are doing so well now at other markets. I can definitely say that this journey is not easy, it can be hard at times. Especially the coordinating part and doing everything behind the screen. I don’t have an assistant so everything that is done, is done by me and me only. I want the world to know that at The Monts Pop-Up Market, we are a market where you can come showcase your products, inform others about your products and network. We are a community of diverse and we are here to support one another. Anyone with a small business is welcome. We aim for nothing but success and sellouts!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have a whole list of places to go! But, in all seriousness, we would start if off at Texas Tailgate, located Downtown Houston! Get us some cold brews, watch the game and definitely get us some Los Primos Fajita Hot Dogs while we’re at it. We’d then most likely hop around the city, socialize (network). I think being in Houston, you’d have to check out Minute Maid Park and go to an Astros game. I love baseball! Anything baseball, count me in! Especially if our boys are playing! Go Astros!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to say thank you to my boyfriend for pushing me, investing in me and showing me that anything really is possible! Without him, his advice, his words of encouragement, I don’t think I would have built the confidence I have today.

Seeing you as a barber and a barbershop owner, makes me so incredibly proud! So, thank you for lighting my fire!
