We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Boone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Back in 2014, I had a trip planned on the horizon and needed some extra cash! I had a tie dye kit stashed in my craft collection so I bought some kids tshirts and tie dyed them, then hand painted names & sayings on the back of the shirts. I sold them to my friends, found a love for bright, vivid rich colorful clothing, went on my trip and came back and started my business!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With this art, it has been trial and error. I am the type of person that just needs to learn on my own, I can’t usually follow instruction well so I just fake it until I make it! When I first started creating with dyes, I knew I had a niche for it but I still had ALOT to learn. The different ways of processing the dyes, the non negotiables in the process and the quality of what I was needing for this business was all learned by self research and trial & error. I love bright, rich, vivid tie dye and I hadn’t seen ANY before I started, though I will be honest I wasn’t looking either. I grew up not really loving tie dye because all that I had seen were muted shades and that wasn’t really my vibe. I have been a bright colorful person all my life! In my business, the lasting rich color is important to me but it is equally as important as customer service and I believe those together is what makes me stand out and why I have a great network of amazing returning customers. Also, I like to have alot of variety in my inventory, so you won’t see two alike, especially in the same size!
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
First stop, The Fomo Factory! Maybe take them shopping during the day, grab some food at The Cheesecake Factory. Then head to Montrose for tattoos at 713 tattoo and food again at the Velvet Taco. Then we’d catch some drinks & pool wherever feels good! Montrose is a great place for people watching so a patio with drinks can be so fun!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I couldn’t have the business I have today without the support of my husband, we have three young children and growing this wouldn’t have happened without the support from him. I also couldn’t have done it without my oldest daughter Marley. She helps me with the smaller business stuff when I am running behind like tagging, labeling and shipping. She also is such a HUGE help at my outdoor markets 1-4 times a month, shes the BEST!
