We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Barrera & Terri Booser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel Barrera & Terri Booser, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Quality craftsmanship and exceptional customer service are equally important factors behind our success. They work better as a team just like we do. We each have over 25 years of business and fabrication knowledge. We understand the quality of our products is as equally important as the relationship we develop with our clients. In a small business word of mouth is your best friend. That is why you have to focus as much on customer service as you do high quality products.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everyday when we come into our workroom we have a new and exciting project to fabricate. Each job is custom and different from the last one. A huge part of our craft/skill is being able to build from scratch on a daily basis. The ability to build draperies for any size space has been developed through years of sewing experience. Any craft is not learned overnight. All projects have challenges to work through and learn from. We have worked together for almost 5 years now and we are still fearless! We are very excited about the growth of Sugar & Spice in the near future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would take them to Galveston to cruise around and get in the sunshine and sand. Then eat at the Hub Cap Grill or Rudy & Pacos. We would take them to Kemah to drive down Toddville road and eat at Tookies or T-Bone Tom’s. We would go to Alvin for the Alvin Antique mall, Miss Ellie’s, and to Laporte for Vicki’s Antiques. Then swing by Sylvan beach and maybe drive through Morgan’s Point. We would take them to Mr. Sombrero, Craft 96 and the Davenport for martini’s. We could maybe go for a hike at Jack Brooke’s park or Holly Bay. We would go out to Sante Fe to the Railean distillery/Bucaneer bar for rum!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We both agree we could have never made it this far without the “Beyond Amazing” support from both of our husbands, Andrew Barrera & Jeff Booser. Through the early years while we were each growing our individual businesses they were there helping us every step along the way with just raw love and support. After 2017 when we partnered our businesses they made maximum efforts to fuel our success. They have always been and still are our #1 cheerleaders!
