We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I created my Instagram page initially to be able to find community in a way. I was a new stay-at-home-mom in a new town, and I had no friends in my area yet. I thought I could just be open and vulnerable on the internet and see what happened. As my page grew, so did my online friendships that I started forming with other moms all over the world. Even though I’ve never met many of them, they have made such an impact on my life. They helped me grow more confident in my motherhood journey, gave me great parenting advice, and most important were so encouraging and loving to me the whole time. I couldn’t believe that strangers on the internet that I’ve never even met could be that kind, and I feel bonded to so many of them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a content creator through and through. I’ve been making funny little videos since I was a child with a desktop computer webcam in my room. I’ve always been able to visualize videos and content creation very clearly, and the overwhelming feeling of pride & joy when I’m able to nail my vision is the best. I can’t believe that I have somehow managed to turn my random & weird thoughts into videos that today, thousands of other moms find relatable and humorous! Never in my wildest dreams did I think that shy girl who barely had any friends would have this many online friends. It’s such a gift. I truly enjoy content creation down to my soul. My journey online started with one viral video about baby constipation (LOL) and has gone on to cover hundreds of other parenting topics and struggles. My page is mostly finding the humor and joy in parenting. It hasn’t come very easy and it’s been a slow build to 70,000+ followers, but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come in the last four years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t ventured downtown very often, so I don’t know too many spots down there, but I would love to take them to The Woodlands where everything is family-friendly and so beautiful. They have wonderful parks/playgrounds, the best restaurants, and endless things to do for people of all ages. I personally love visiting Market Street in The Woodlands, and whenever I have an out-of-town visitor, I take them there. That being said, I have been to a production of Beauty and the Beast at the Hobby Center in Houston, and that was out-of-this-world amazing. So I would venture there again if I had a visiting friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband who has been there for me through every worry, every doubt, every fear, every mental breakdown, and every moment of my blogging journey. He has been my number 1 supporter and has lovingly pushed me forward even when every fiber of my being doubted what I was doing. He always knows exactly what to say and how to encourage me, and my page wouldn’t be what it is without him.
