Meet Rajan Purcell

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Rajan Purcell again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Rajan, we are so thrilled to be connecting again and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing things you have been up to. Before we jump into all of that, some of our readers might have missed our prior interview, so can you take a moment to reintroduce yourself?
Hey there! My name is Rajan, I write poetry, music, and am a stay at home dad.
What sets me apart is what makes us all unique, the culmination of several families, countless individuals, and the various places I’ve lived and worked. In my case, I’m half Indian, half American, I’ve travelled widely my whole life, and though many of my social circle are artists, I find inspiration from everyone I meet or learn about.
I had to retire from music at thirty due to an injury, but have enjoyed a second career as stay at home parents for three children (ages 1, 4, and 8), and use my extra time to compose music, poems, and record bass for my own, and others’ projects.

Alright, so our main goal today is to give our audience an update on what you have been up to since our last conversation. We’d love to hear how things are going and what you are most looking forward to or excited about these days.
Well, after three-plus amazing years as a Tex-patriate family living in New Hampshire, we are moving back to South Texas summer of 2025.
For me as an artist, this means reintegrating back into a network of musicians, writers, artists, painters, etc. all back in a familiar territory, home!
I am re-starting a long range recording project with a jazz drummer in Miami, Richard Hargett.
Will look to work with a music producer in Richmond, TX on various projects.
All while raising our three children, Ages eight, four, and one.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

My three children.
They are not just my legacy, but my wife’s as well, and our respective family’s. Our masterpieces, for we pour not just time and resources, effort and tears, but our love, hopes, joys, and dreams. Our life’s work will live on in the values we instill, just as our best artwork will be imbued with the spark of inspiration.
Children will carry our “artist statement” forward long after we’re gone. Taking the time now to bestow the wonder, and the fearlessness it takes to explore and be inquisitive is our life’s greatest work. Making the next generation of art-lovers and artists in the process!
