We had the good fortune of connecting with Ralph Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ralph, what do you want people to remember about you?
When I think about what I want my legacy to be, the first thing that comes to my mind is a goal of positively impacting millions of people. This is part of the reason why I actually went into entrepreneurship in the first place, to be able to serve others at a mass scale. I would like to not be remembered by my business accomplishments, but rather what I am able to do from being at those higher levels that I am striving to get to. I would be able to make a much bigger difference. We only have one life, and my purpose is to help others make the best of theirs. Through this, I am able to fulfill my mission of serving a greater cause.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business Hippo Flyers helps real estate professionals with online marketing education and professional services. I realized that there are many agents who are great at what they do, but have not really figured out the whole marketing thing yet. In a world where everything is going towards digital, it is now something that is crucial if you want to grow your business. There is definitely a learning curve to marketing and as business owner, its often hard to find time for learning digital marketing. My goal is to provide free resources for agents and help build connections amongst each other. I believe in providing value and the rest will come. Ultimately, the goal is to build a community platform for networking with other complementary professionals where everyone benefits from connecting. How I came to land into this field still blows my mind. Hippo Flyers is a branch of ‘Splendid Marketing 360’; my first project within the marketing industry. At the moment it is in a redevelopment stage. I have learned a lot from this project however and decided to apply it to a more specific niche, the real estate industry. Prior to these ventures, I have worked in quite a few different fields. I had my first summer job as a pool greeter at 14, and then the rest followed. I have worked in hotels, door-to-door sales, done medical interpreting, automotive sales, and worked in the financial services industry. When I turned 20, I was in college and I made a hard decision to drop out and pursue my entrepreneurial career. I felt like I was not really doing much. I was not excited. I had years left to graduate in a new program for entrepreneurs and engineers, and I found myself questioning if school was really needed to start a business or if I was just wasting time. On an impulse, I decided to move to Los Angeles and chase my dream. I had absolutely no connections there, but I knew that Los Angeles was the place to go for those who are chasing a big dream. That’s when my entrepreneurial journey started. It was hard being out in a big city and not knowing anyone. Facing loneliness, doubts, and very long days. I would work in the day and uber at night to help with expenses that came from living there. I was blessed to meet amazing people, and rub elbows with really wealthy self-made entrepreneurs. I even had a mentor session with a man who had just sold his Bank Startup and it stemmed from a conversation I had with his wife on an uber ride. I like to say that this was the universe finding a way to help me for being out there taking chances on myself. These last years, I have learned a lot. Not only about business, but also about myself. I think that one of the biggest breakthroughs I have had is learning to be patient. Tony Robbins says, “People overestimate what they can do in a year, but underestimate what they can accomplish in a decade”, and I can finally understand the power of that what that really means. See, like many others I used to think that one can build something really big in 1 year. We tend to want things fast. My mindset has definitely changed so much. I now see that it takes years of hard work and being able to keep going even if you don’t see many results. Really successful giants like amazon, Apple, and Facebook were not overnight sensations. They were years in the making before they found any explosive growth. It took more than 20 years for them to be where they are at and I think that a lot of people really forget about that, myself included. A lot of successful unicorns that we are seeing now have founders with years of experience too, and more than likely some failures that they were able to learn from as well. This has given me a sense of peace, that its okay to not be where you would like to have been. As long as you are making consistent progress, the results will come. As for my vision as an entrepreneur, I am super excited for these next few years. Times are changing fast, we are all moving into the next era of technology and I am preparing for that. I would like to be part of the building of web3, AI and AR in some way or form. I have a lot to learn and I’m excited for what the future holds. More than anything, I want the world to know that #werisebyliftingothers is a bigger vision, its about helping people rise, and ultimately serve something greater than ourselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to create a little itinerary for my friend and I spending a week in Houston, it would go a little bit like this. We would have to start at the Galleria Mall and check out some of their high end stores. If we are going to be cruising through Houston and taking pictures in some of the best scenery, we have got to be looking and feeling great. Our first day, I would definitely start with the NASA Space Center. I think this is one of the greatest things that we are able to go see and learn history from right now. Especially with all the progress that we are expected to make these next years in space exploration and travel, its definitely a must if you are in Houston. The next day I would take them to the Rodeo Show. This is an experience that not many cities get to have close to them. You just have to experience the environment and how lively it gets. For our Instagram picture worthy days, I would take them to the Houston graffiti area and Smither park. These are a must to get those IG perfect artsy pictures for our #Houston post. The next day I would want to take them to Rice University to see the beautiful architecture followed by a walk around Herman park to appreciate the beautiful scenery. On our final day, I would make sure we get to try Pappa’s Barbq perhaps after going to a Lakewood Church Service and finally sending them off.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout one of my closest friends Dione Serna. a Realtor in El Paso, Texas. I have known her for years now, and since we met she has been nothing short of supportive. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve gone through some really great moments and some very hard and dark times. Through these hard and humbling lessons, I found myself doubting my purpose and my abilities. She was there. I have faced some of lowest points in my career and she has reminded me of who I am and the things I have done to get to where I am at. Having her believe in me like that has been a lifesaver. I know I can count on her for anything, and I hope she knows that she can count on me too. Thank you Dione, much love – Ralph.
