We had the good fortune of connecting with Ram Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ram, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was 3 when I started drawing. I would draw cartoons and movies that I saw. Now I’m 36 and I tattoo cartoons and movies that I’ve seen for a living. Not much has changed there haha. I knew I wanted to to be an artist from the time I could pick up a pencil. It was something innate. Over the years I perfected my technique by way of my mother. She was an art teacher and a guiding light in my artistic journey. She still is at times and I do get sent back to being a student as often as I can. I believe the day you stop learning is the day you start to stagnate and decay. You must always try to be a student even if you feel like you’ve mastered your craft.
What should our readers know about your business?
Well I guess I would like to start with the fact that my shop is mentioned among the top tier of shops in Houston. That when you Google best tattoo shops in Houston our name pops up. Thats not something we had to pay for either. The people spoke on that one and for that im very proud. If you had told me back in 2011 that rampage tattoo would be as prominent as it is today i would have said, “yea I know.” I was a bit cocky back then and still kind of am but I think you have to have that mindset. You have to believe that you have it in you to make those mountains move. Its not arrogance if you can deliver Consistently. Its belief. The power of belief is astounding. You can believe in yourself or believe what others say. That goes for anything in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok first we would need to eat at Mais. I been going there since the day I moved to Houston and ill never stop. The food is phenomenal there. Then on our next meal I’d take them to a little taco stand on the south west side called taqueria texapache. Amazing food there as well. As far as drinks im not much of a drinker. My schedule is so busy I don’t really have time to go hang out at the bars. But I do make time to go to the shooting range. For indoor ranges I like Athena Gun Club. Very nice facilities there. For outdoor range I like Carters Country out in Spring.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My clients. I would consider alot of them as friends. Without my clients I would not be where I am today and although I dont get to spend a ton of time with each of them on a one on one basis I believe they know me as their friend. So shout out to all of them. They know who they are.
