We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashanique Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rashanique, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was forced to build my own business, the 9 to 5 rat race wasn’t for me. The rats that worked with me at these mundane occupations told me everyday that I didn’t fit in with Non-profit /Corporate America.
Non-Profit Corporate are non-profits who operate like blood sucking corporations.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer. I create film, stories, show content, everything starts with writing. It took me a long time to realize I was an artist. I failed at many 9 to 5 positions trying to make myself into a normal person.
Most of the positions, I had were at churches, non -profit organizations in the Houston, I won’t name names until I am paid enough.
Anyway, the people in upper management would put unrealistic expectations on a person with no COMPENSATION, for the one who didn’t pucker up.
Point blank if you didn’t play their game they never let you pitch. I blamed myself, I am a college graduate, I am supposed to sit behind a desk and work.
It was a case of forcing an 8 track in a cassette player, I just didn’t fit.
I had to learn not to be upset, I stopped thinking about what I should do and Prayed to God about what to do.
I was embarrassed to be different, now I am wiser, I know different means Freedom!
I went blonde 10 years ago. Every woman I talked to before I went blonde, told me it was a bad idea, because I am so fair skinned.
I did it anyway. Now its my signature, no matter what style is installed, its gone be 613 blonde.
It’s funny a few of the women that told me not to go blonde went blonde later.
Even my ex husband’s mistress went blonde, when I saw that I had to laugh.
Trust yourself, with every bold move, trust yourself, NOBODY can tell you what you should be doing, so TRUST YOU.
You know, You Write!!! (My Journal about trusting yourself)
My point is when I learned who I was, I decided to be EVERYWHERE!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Down Almeda is my block
5015 Almeda- wraparound patio with giant screen plasmas , an art installation dedicated to Spike Lee, ambiance of Houston’s Black elite and some real good eats.
UnWine Wine Bar-sexy and cute two story wine bar has the best rooftop patio view of Houston’s Third Ward, great for couples or small groups, this quaint place with giant salads and even bigger selection of wines, crafts and champagne!
Urban Social- on Richmond right off 59 south, enjoy their quaint patio, old school sounds and a slamming burger truck in back to wash down those top shelf drink creations.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Parents deserve every piece of Praise, Glory and the lent out of my pockets! James and Barbara Williams have been shining examples of how to persevere through everything life will take you through.
My parents are owed the entire world and I would still be short.
Carter James , the reason I am a Mother. Carter James made me do something, I swore I would never do, give birth.
Carter made me fly. The day Carter came into my life, was the day every fear was pushed out along with him. I literally, felt like, if I could pull this out, I can pull anything off.
Thank you Carter, for giving me my Super Woman cape.
In addition, to writing and producing I also, dabble in Public Relations.
As an artist, I have a hard time with self promotion but what I lack in pushing myself out there, I make up for putting other artists and organizations in the spotlight.
I represent Authors, Small business owners. Producing commercials, refreshing brands and setting up events.
