We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Our success is due to consistency in working towards our goals in our art work every single day. Surrounding yourself with people that you trust is really important. Not just people that you trust, but people that you know understand your specific vision and love it as much as you love it. We try to make a unique experience as far as online shopping goes & doing something different by allowing people to mail in their own materials. Making one-of-a-kind marketable also makes us successful.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m really proud of the systems and organizations that we’ve created within the company to streamline how our business works. It’s really exciting to me that we created this business and everything within it from scratch and are making it work; that we are changing and adapting every day to improve on our day-to-day practices (working from home, dealing with a pandemic, make a business grow during a time when others are struggling) and it’s working for us and will continue to work. We’ve found a way to pay our workers appropriately, keep them working from home, keep up-to-date with our orders. The cherry on top is that it’s all recycled materials. We are connecting the community’s artists together by keeping our business local to Austin and not in New York or LA. We are building a scene for our artists, and giving them support & community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m most familiar with the Austin area since that’s where I’m living and something that comes to mind is Butterfly Bar. I was living in Denver, Colorado and moved back during the pandemic so I’m not sure what’s still available to recommend necessarily. Although, Texas is full of good food & drink all over the place for those visiting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The circumstances that the pandemic lead to played a big part in me being able to throw myself into Psychic Outlaw for a sink-or-swim moment. I definitely need to shout out my core team (Keighley Voorheis & Lori Jones) who stepped up when they saw that I needed help in building my business.
