We had the good fortune of connecting with REGAN ADAMS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi REGAN, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business from life experiences. Nobody talked to me about how important it is to learn who I am, what my gifts and talents are, or how to date and be married. Knowing all of these things is crucial when finding love. I grew up in a two-parent household, but learning about relationships wasn’t emphasized. I don’t fault my parents, but as I grew up, got married, had my own family, and then divorced, I felt it was necessary to have tough conversations about trauma, accountability, self-love, sex, purpose, and love within a romantic relationship. Through interviewing people, I found that most don’t have a blueprint for these aspects of life; they are left to figure it out on their own. My business aims to help people navigate, listen, and understand themselves and romantic relationships, while fostering a community approach to learning and growth.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been hosting relationship events for over 10 years, but last year God gave me The Build-A-Man Workshop Project and Bootcamp. While conducting many events, I started to notice that women were expressing dissatisfaction with the dating pool. There was a lot of negative talk about men. Additionally, I observed unrealistic expectations from women coupled with a lack of accountability on their part. While I mentioned earlier that I wasn’t taught how to be married or in a relationship, my mother did demonstrate through her actions how she cared for my father. I followed her example with my husband at the time, and everything seemed to work… I just did it all for the wrong man. However, I had to take accountability that he wasn’t a bad person; I simply didn’t know myself, my purpose, or understand relationships. It was a live-and-learn situation. Despite our divorce, I don’t consider my marriage a failure. I took everything I learned, started researching, and interviewed people to gather their perspectives. I’ve learned that from every perceived failure, there are lessons to be learned and opportunities for growth. Despite the tough times, I wouldn’t change a thing. I wouldn’t have this business without those experiences.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just recently moved to Houston a little over a year ago. I absolutely love everything about this city. It’s like being at a multicultural family reunion. I would say it’s a big city with a loving small-town feel.
To be really honest, Houston is so big that a week is not enough to experience everything. If we don’t choose an Airbnb, we have to stay at the Thompson Hotel and go to their Happy Hour at Sol 7. This is the hotel’s restaurant and they have an amazing rooftop view! The next day when my guests come in, we will grab something casual to eat. I would probably take them to True Food Kitchen, Supergreen or somewhere with a variety. For dinner, I would still keep it pretty casual but fun… a place with music, people, and drinks. I love Rockhouse! It’s a somewhat elevated sports bar restaurant which offers southern comfort food, good music, and events regularly. You never know who you are going to see.
During the rest of the week, we would find time to go to Pur Noire Wines, which is a winery, make candles at B. Elevated Candle Bar. You HAVE to have dinner reservations at Maestro’s! I definitely have to take you to The Post, which is an old post office in downtown Houston turned food hall. It has AMAZING views of downtown Houston. They also host events there. Make sure you bring your money, because all of the food at the hall is great. You’re going to want to try everything. Then we must go to Williams Sonoma for a free cooking class! We will also catch a classic movie at the Rooftop Cinema Club. If there is a good theater show, we’ll go to the Theater District and catch one. We HAVE to make sure we hit up Lucille’s for lunch or brunch on the weekend. Their wings and croissant French toast are EVERYTHING. We also HAVE to go to The Breakfast Klub!! But you NEED to go when they first open if you visit during the weekend. The weekday may be a safer bet to avoid a huge line.
There’s a ton of things to do here, but you can’t leave until you attend the poetry night at the Poetry Lounge. All I can say is GET THERE EARLY! It’s always packed, but it’s worth it!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to Kendra Askew. She is a dear friend of mine who has encouraged, pushed, and given me ideas to continue moving forward in this business. She lets me know that it is needed. Despite having her own family and business to attend to, she always makes time for mine, whether through an actual phone call or text. I’m grateful to her.
