We had the good fortune of connecting with Reina Mora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business mainly stemmed from wanting to have a creative outlet. I worked a normal 9-5 office job, and although I enjoyed it, it doesn’t give me the ability to be creative. I started Lush Events because I know that I love to create memories for people. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I love to create cute moments and setups, I have always been that way. This business gives me full creative reign and I love that.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
No matter the researching that can be done when starting a business, there are always those things you learn through trial and error. I definitely did not expect as many challenges as I faced in the beginning. Entrepreneurship has humbled me in many ways! From coordinating times with clients to facilitating permits from the Houston parks, it has been a journey and a great learning experience already. To me, as long as I am treating my clients with kindness, professionalism and great communication, I have all that I need to succeed. I am proud of my attention to detail, and not comparing myself to other similar companies – I think there is room for us all! I am excited about new decor, elevated picnics, hosting major events and executing beyond what my clients were expecting.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so many amazing things to offer, If a friend was visiting for a week of course I would suggest a Luxury picnic at Buffalo Bayou park – with the views of the Houston skyline, it is certainly a beautiful experience and such a vibe! I love rooftop bars, my favorite place to grab an espresso martini would have to be Z on 23 in Downtown Houston. We can’t forget about the amazing art at the Museum of Fine Arts, followed by brunch at Kiss, (The Short Rib Hash is to die for)! I would also take my bestie to see the Waterfall at Gerald D. Hines park, it is massive and a beautiful Houston staple. Houston is also known for its food, I always recommend eating at Turkey Leg hut – the portions are huge and the food definitely lives up to the hype!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Strong Women mentorship has always been extremely important in my life. My girls would always hype me up and encourage the idea of starting this Event planning/Luxury Picnic business, even when it was just a thought of mine. I recognize the importance of having at least a few good girl friends who support you, push you and want to see you do things that you love. Since I have announced the business my girls have been reposting and sharing all of my work. I can tell they are genuinly proud and I thank them for that!
