We had the good fortune of connecting with Ressie Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ressie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a very artistic person growing up I always wanted to do things my way, a creative and fun way. So doing makeup was the icing on the cake for me it let me express myself in different ways no matter how I was feeling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other professional MUAs is that I don’t do it for the money. I truly have a passion for makeup and I love seeing how my work brings out the confidence in my clients. I think that’s the best part! I’m most excited about growing my business meeting new woman and traveling to different states for events. Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy at all. I spent hrs even days studying different skin types and perfecting my craft. I’m my biggest critic so some days I have to pull out my old work to remind myself how far I’ve come. I’ve definitely learned to have patience. Being an entrepreneur isn’t easy for no one and everyday isn’t going to be a client filled day in the industry that I’m in, so I had to learn to keep myself encouraged and still finding content to put my name out there even when business is slow. I want to let anyone know that’s hesitant about starting their business to DO IT NOW! I’m a mom of 3. Two of my kids has disabilities so if I can do it you can too!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m originally from New Orleans but I’ve been in Houston for a while. If a friend of mine was visiting Houston I’ll definitely take her/him to The savoy that’s one of my favorite brunch spots s/o to my girl Roslyn she always show us a good time there. Of course Kamp! You can’t come to Houston without visiting Kamp and since most spots close at 2am we’ll for sure have to go to Double Apple for the after hr turn up. Eating spots, I would say Turkey leg hut & Willie G’s luxury on a budget lol. And if you’re a daiquiri kind of girl Bourbon st daiquiris and Daiquiri Island is my favs
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my soul sisters. Khaja, Laylay, and Nene. They always encouraged me to pursue my dream as a MUA. On days when I felt like it wasn’t for me no more or I wanted to pursue other things they always knew the passion I had for makeup and never allowed me to give up on that dream. My sister Nene let me do her makeup for prom in 2011 I was in the 10th grade so extra s/o to her because lord knows I had no clue what I was doing lol.
