We had the good fortune of connecting with RICEYFLUSH and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi RICEYFLUSH, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process always followed behind the saying, “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” I know myself better than anyone else. I trust myself more than anyone else. So it would only make sense to go with who I know and trust, myself. I knew I wanted things done a certain way and the accountability has so much more weight because I can only blame myself for any failure.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mostly photograph people, cars, and sometimes locations. I love to add an urban twist to photos because that’s the lifestyle I grew up in. That’s what I can relate to.
What sets me apart from others is my influence and vision. Most of my photos are inspired by music or movies. I can watch a movie or listen to a song and my mind begins to construct a Photoshoot concept. I try to capture the emotion I felt during that song or movie scene. If I’m listening to a sad song, maybe my Photoshoot may have some colder or darker tones.
I got where I am today by hustling. This includes staying focused, not giving up, doing anything possible to ensure I can be successful. I stayed determined and never let up.
To get to where I am now it was very difficult. In a world with millions of photographers, I had to create my own lane. In the beginning there wasn’t a lot of support for my ideas.
Along the way I’ve grown to understand the importance of accountability. How it’s perfectly fine to take ownership of mistakes, things happen.
I want the world to know that everything I produce is authentic.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely want to take someone or some people downtown. It’s the central core of the city. There are so many restaurants, bars, and people. I would definitely recommend riding bikes to maybe get drinks or food and just hang out with friends.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to all of the cyclist in the city of Houston. Biking has been such an important factor of my life when it comes to getting in shape and maintaining a social life. I do most of my thinking while riding my bike with friends. I love the community and the positive vibes that come with it. The cyclist in Houston play a huge role in terms of keeping me focused and busy.
