We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Antona and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Each morning I get up hours before the work day begins. I organize and prepare for everything that is going to happen that day. I believe that you must prepare for the unexpected. I am a true believer in consistency. First, I am consistent in the information I teach to my clients and I am consistent in the way I follow up with my clients. It is my goal to make sure they’re informed in the buying process and pleased with their experiences. I thrive in a routine setting for the office. I am constantly on top of my employees to make sure that everyone is carrying their weight for the needs of the client. It is a true team effort. In short, consistency, living by a routine, and treating people with kindness have fueled my success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At Uptown Diamond, our bread and butter is of course selling diamond engagement rings and any custom pieces our clients may have in mind. I am super passionate about the championship ring division of our company. We are the official jeweler of The University of Texas at Austin. We have made rings for Texas A&M, University of Houston, Baylor, and Texas Christian University. We have also made championship sports rings for professional teams. This facet of our company gives us the opportunity to share more of our creativity in the diamond business.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Discovery Green in Downtown Houston is a pretty cool place to check out. Second, I would tell anyone that comes to Houston to go to the Original Carrabbas on Voss. Johnny Carrabba, owner, and his partner, Stephen Barkley, will provide the most outstanding service and great tasting food. The new Eastern Glades at Memorial Park is a definitely worth visiting. The city of Houston has done a wonderful job. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my friends of course. My wonderful employees as well. I must give recognition to a book titled , “How To Get People To Do Things” by Robert Conklin. I give this book to each person I bring on to our team at Uptown Diamond. My favorite quote from the book reads, “…to the degree you give others what they want, they will give you want you want” (Conklin 3).
