We had the good fortune of connecting with Rome Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rome, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Romenarts was created to provide my glow in the dark pieces (glow babies) a platform of exposure, illuminating the homes and offices of all my private collectors. Romenarts purpose is to add another dimension to art, literally.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Iam Rome, the “Glow Gawd”. I create custom glow in the dark art pieces and designer apparel. Each of my pieces is an extension of who I am and what my work represents. Which is to provide another dimension to the way we view art. My goal is to use my pieces to illuminate the world, highlighting my art in the literal sense. I want customers to be able to enjoy their pieces in light and in darkness. I have truly come a long way in this my art business journey. As a veteran, it first began as a way for me to cope with my service connected PTSD and anxiety. It has afforded me the ability to meet so many other fellow creatives who have been so kind and inviting, taking me into the creative world and helping me navigate the scary waters. I’ve gained a lot of new private collectors as well as the best art teacher and mentor in the world. I am proud to say that my works have now been accepted into the designer apparel realm with the creation of my designer socks and home decor items, which can all be found on my website iamromenarts.com. As a true sock enthusiast being able to add to my growing collection ( currently have 265 pairs ), I am now able to add my very own art pieces to that growing collection. Some of the things i have learned have truly been lessons that the pieces themselves have taught me; be patient ( can’t rush epic pieces); listen to the art ( some pieces really have voices); and most importantly be kind to myself during the process. Rome was not built in one day. I would like for the world to know just a few things about Romenarts; 1 I am the “Glow Gawd“ it is my duty to make illuminating works that cannot be compared to what any other artists is creating. 2 My goal is to one day have the Louvre create a glow in the dark section to allow me to showcase my works and the gift bestowed upon me to millions and millions of people all over the world. Lastly, I want to create a platform for other artists who look like me, whom may be younger than me to be inspired to push the envelope, be Intentionally extraordinary. I will create cultured collective art galleries all over the world because it is necessary for People of Color to be seen in every aspect of creativity because we are the culture.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is a pretty large city, no5 in the country i think may be larger, so there are plenty places to visit. I lovvvvvveee good food and beverages, so I’d have to say one of the places I’ve been a regular of for almost 5 or 6 years is Lotus Seafood ( Brasewood location). They have the best snow crabs with that crack sauce, its to die for, but please dont die because then you can’t go back. Which you will want to, trust me. If you ever visit them, all the employees know me so just tell them Rome sent you and they will take care of you. 2nd favor place to eat is Lopez Mexican restaurant ( will crest location) Been a patron for over 20 years so the entire staff knows me too well. They have the best enchiladas, but hands down the best habanero margarita in the city. If my friend came during a time where concerts were going on, I’d definitely have to take them to see Tobe (from the SWAT) Nwigwe to experience how to make purpose popular. I am a very big PHO fan so i would recommend Mai’s if you are in town and The PHO shack if you are on the outskirts near the first colony area. I can be a bit on the boujee side when it comes to the hotel scenes here, but my 2 favs ( based off experience ) have to be The Alessandria at number one with Hotel Derek coming in second. If you are someone who likes to ride around and just see different parts of the city but not actually stop then hopping on the 610 loop will surely take you in circles and you can see everything the Good the bad and sometimes the ugly (pot holes and construction). One Last thing, if six flags was still here, that would be the one place I’d say every person should visit. There is no ride like the Texas Cyclone ever.
