We had the good fortune of connecting with Rondon Redford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rondon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was to create generational wealth. Growing up poor and having to make a way out of no way fueled my desire for entrepreneurship. I never wanted my kids to grow up the way I had to.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I developed the idea of entrepreneurship while working in the retail industry. I always felt that I could do more than just being an employee. Since I was in home improvement retail I decided to start my own restoration business called Extravagant Restorations, LLC. It was tough but I took everything that I learned from retail management and incorporated it into my business. I had many challenges, going through slow months having my equipment stolen but I kept pushing through. I had a great support system in my wife who would never let me give up. We discovered a niche market with epoxy countertops which sets us apart from other companies. I’ve learned that you have to set your self apart from others and create a demand. You have to make them want you. We did that by being honest and giving outstanding customer service along with quality work. That is what we wanted to be known for. That made the transition easier when creating Second Line Creole Seasoning Co. and our other company On Time Dumpster Rentals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely visit downtown Houston. There is so much to do and see. Downtown is filled with different people from different parts of life. You can literally visit restaurants from different cultures everyday of the week. I’m from Louisiana so we would definitely have to do the outdoor cookout and enjoy friends and family at home. We would have to visit Gus’s wold famous fried chicken, Star Pizza and Vic and Anthony’s steakhouse.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Rebecca Redford. I watched her as a child do whatever it took to ensure that we had everything we needed.
