We had the good fortune of connecting with Roshaunda “RO” Ingram-Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roshaunda “RO”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It was always my passion to own my own business, but the demands of life got in the way. Instead of pursuing my passion I went for what I then thought to be the sure thing. I figured securing a corporate job would give me security, financial stability, and time to pursue my passion even if it was as a hobby. Boy was I wrong! I slowly watched myself turn into someone I couldn’t recognize. I allowed my career to define me and right around the beginning of Covid I was in a very bad place, and I started peeling back the layers to understand where”I/ME” had gone. I was constantly traveling for work, exhausted, stressed, depressed blaming everything and everyone except the true culprit! Giving every second of your life to something or someone who doesn’t even recognize you beyond your employee ID number and what you can do for them made me realize I had spent a decade of my life giving the best of me to a company that didn’t appreciate, respect, or value me as a person. It took me nearly 18 months to get myself back to being ME, and everyday is still a journey! I don’t know exactly when I gave up on my dreams, but I know they are alive and I am beginning to flourish in the way I have always wanted. I am building Adorn my way, and it feels good to wake up everyday and smile because you are happy that you have your life back and you get to do something that truly makes you happy! I’ve always been passionate about my career, but now I am passionate because I get to live my life on purpose doing what makes me happy! I started my own business to GET BACK TO ME! I hope to one day soon help build the confidence of other entrepreneurs who may also be in similar situations and afraid to step out on faith. I jumped off of the cliff to save myself, now watch me soar!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I’m an empathic and intuitive designer. I have a gift of seeing people beneath the surface, which allows me to feel the emotions of others even when they aren’t spoken. I used to be afraid to use that gift because it felt abnormal, but I’ve learned to embrace it. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people. I truly believe in building relationships and meeting people where they are! I don’t judge, as it is not my right.

I am most proud of my willingness to step out on faith relinquishing the corporate cushion that paralyzed my existence for so long. My newfound independence has allowed me to FEEL again. For a long time I was numb. I was very successful, but numb, and over time the stress took its toll until I didn’t know who I was anymore.

I’ve always been passionate about design, but as a broke college student I chose a business degree as I would be graduating college with a large amount of student loan debt. It wasn’t easy to erase or rewrite all of the negative self-talk or the limited respect or support for a woman of color in the corporate workplace I was faced with, but everyday I continue on my journey. Reading, writing, manifesting, meditating, healing crystals, diet, and exercise became priorities for me. I had to nourish my mind, body, and soul to get back to who I was and wanted to be.

Adorn Interiors is reflective of the love I bestow upon myself and every person I meet! To Adorn is to make better, and because I was going through a major life transformation, one that required me to Adorn myself, I decided it was the perfect name for my business. I Adorn people and spaces by bringing a clients vision to life. I want every client I work with to remember Ro and Adorn for the shedding light and positive energy into their homes and spaces!

Adorn is just beginning, but I am building an enterprise. One that will help other designers live into their dreams without fear. I am just getting started. Everything I manifest comes into existence because I am in a position to receive. I am grateful for where I am and where I am headed! WATCH ADORN SOAR!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is an interesting question…but a fun one. So first thing, I don’t drink, so we would likely end up at a local CBD shop. My three favorite places are Bahama Mama in Katy, CBD Kratom in Cypress or Memorial City, or American Shaman in Katy. A week long trip with me would likely take us on a road trip to Austin to Lake Travis or anywhere where there is great hiking. I spend a lot of time in AZ and CA for the scenery, as I truly value my peace of mind. I don’t always do the typical things and I recently returned to Houston last summer so I’ve been really busy building my brand. I like adventure, so we would definitely be traveling.

A typical daycation with me:

– Gym 4:30am-6am
– Favorite Juice Bar (Main Squeeze) 7 am
– Spa 9 am
– Local Crystal Shop for group mediation 10:30am
– Buffalo Bayou for a walk in the park and to be among other creatives 12pm
– Lunch/Brunch – Anywhere the wind blows me, but somewhere with a diverse group of people 1:30
– Art Gallery or Open Mic/Spoken Word Event
– Maybe a little shopping in Memorial City
– Dinner at Pearl & Vine in Katy, TX
– Midtown Stroll

I still need pointers on the hottest places to visit, somebody help me lol! I’ve been meaning to attend some of the UFC events in Houston, as I love MMA, but I haven’t attended yet, but soon. I love outdoor events as well, but not when its over 95 degrees.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to thank my husband of 6 years, Derrick, for loving and supporting me on this journey, and every other journey that I’ve been faced with over the past decade. I have to also thank my mom, Cheryl, for her sacrifices and for always being there for me. My younger sister, Ashley for always setting me straight and being my voice of reason. Erin, for giving me a chance in my first pharmaceutical role many years ago, and hiring me over and over again lol. I love you like a sister! I also want to thank an old dear friend, Simeon, with Live Life Community for helping me find a path forward by loving myself and making the necessary lifestyle changes to pursue my dreams, he is one heck of a life coach. My father, for all the things he couldn’t show me, but yet I learned the lessons!

I believe everyone I have encountered in my life has played a major role in my growth and development, and I truly love every single one, no matter how hard the lesson. Without these people my life wouldn’t have the same meaning, and I may not have made it to where I am today. So I am thankful for everyone who has been there and helped me along the way, and those who haven’t. You are all invaluable in my journey!
