We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosie Dirzanowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started out a few years ago, it all sort of happened by accident. I hand cut a pair of leather earrings for myself. I decided to post to social media and immediately others showed interest. I made pieces here and there for family and friends for the first few months. I had a newborn at the time and didn’t really have the time to devote to anything creatively. Once my little one was a few months old I had an epiphany, in that moment I decided I wanted to go all in with this earring business. At the time, in my area (about an hour south of Houston), no one was really into the leather earring thing. I felt optimistic that with my creativity and love for jewelry, I could do great things if I devoted my time to starting my own business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love what I do and I think, I really hope, it shows through in my work. Attention to detail and constantly trying to think outside of the box is a big thing for me. I take my time with each handmade piece. When it comes Leather+Moxie, quality over quantity is most definitely my motto. The past five years really have been a dream for me. I would say there have only been a few bumps in the road, all of which I consider learning experiences. And I’m most definitely a better business woman because of it. This brand means so much to me and I love getting to look back and see how far it’s all come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh gosh! I’m a pretty low key person and more of a homebody the older I’ve gotten. Definitely hit up Minute Maid Park for an Astros game! Visit all the amazing murals around the city. Maybe spend the day at Hermann Park or Discovery Green. Visit The Galleria. For sure head to The Rustic for drinks and the amazing atmosphere. And of course, stay a night or two at the Marriott Marquis Houston and lounge in the awesome Texas shaped pool!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My little family for sure. My husband helps out with packaging when needed and has taken charge when it comes to placing orders for materials. It’s little things like that that definitely help out when running a smooth small business. And my two kids, Hunter and Dax will always be my biggest inspiration. And last but certainly not least, my customers deserve so much recognition. I have the best supporters, especially locally. I have women who have supported me from the very beginning. I will forever be grateful for their love and support of myself and Leather+Moxie.
