We had the good fortune of connecting with Roxanne Flett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roxanne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My decision to start my own business as a Content Creator was driven by a passion for home design and décor, which I’ve developed throughout my career as the owner of a successful home staging business. Through that business, I earned multiple awards, including being recognized as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Real Estate Staging in 2020 and 2021. I wanted to build on that success and saw an opportunity to create a platform with Roxy Home Living that not only allows me to continue doing what I love, but also to inspire and share my expertise with others in home styling, holiday décor and DIY home improvement.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My professional journey began in 2007 when I discovered my love for home décor through holiday decorating and event planning, where I meticulously themed and detailed every celebration. Encouraged by friends to turn my passion into a profession, I launched my home staging business in 2018. I quickly became involved in the industry and served as Secretary and later President of the RESA (Real Estate Staging Association) Los Angeles Chapter. My drive and determination earned me multiple awards in the industry for my work, as well as Best in Service (customer relations) with Houzz over four consecutive years. In 2021, my family and I decided to relocate to Texas, where I continued to run the business remotely for one year, traveling back to Los Angeles when needed. We bought a builder-grade home and I was eager to personalize it with my design skills. This new chapter inspired me to pivot from home staging to content creation, focusing on home décor and holiday styling and later incorporating DIY home improvement.

Although I had a strong foundation in creating visually appealing spaces through my home staging experience, transitioning to content creation for brands, growing my audience and establishing myself as a brand presented a completely new set of challenges and required a different mindset. I quickly found myself balancing creativity with consistency, creating engaging and authentic content, learning new platforms and adapting to ever-changing algorithms, all while trying to manage the balance between work and personal life (which I must admit is still a challenge). To overcome these challenges, I stay proactive by attending industry conferences, connecting with fellow creators and analyzing performance metrics. The most important lessons I’ve learned are to focus on consistency, produce high-quality and authentic content and leverage the power of networking.

What sets me apart is my hands-on approach, where I embrace challenges head-on and learn through experience. For instance, to reach a wider audience and make improvements that would otherwise be unaffordable, I added DIY home improvements to my content. Despite having no prior experience and at times not knowing where to start, I approached each project with extensive research and trial and error. This approach has allowed me to completely transform my home, including a complete kitchen makeover, installing ceiling beams, new flooring and more – all done by me! I’m most proud of my ability and determination to achieve these results and I love sharing these experiences with my audience.

My story is one of continual growth and adaptation, from pivoting careers and relocating to a new state, to navigating the evolving landscape of content creation. My journey from uncertainty to achievement showcases my commitment to creativity and resourcefulness. Ultimately, I hope Roxy Home Living will inspire others to embrace their own creative journeys and find joy in transforming their own spaces.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible husband, who has been my rock and biggest supporter throughout my journey. His unwavering support has been a cornerstone of my success. Whether it’s lending a helping hand with my DIY projects, offering encouragement or thoughtful advice, he’s always been there. His belief in my dreams and his constant presence have made all the difference. I truly couldn’t have achieved what I have without his love and support and he deserves a huge part of the credit in my story.
