We had the good fortune of connecting with Rumple and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rumple, how does your business help the community?
I think as a cosplayer we help spark the creativity and the appreciation of art in others. The creativity to make new things while appreciating the art that goes into it as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My biggest thing is narrative storytelling. Can I create something that tells a story without words? I was a professional dancer for eight years, and I really think that trained me to be more expressive in other mediums similarly. I often approach costuming the same way, not only theatrically with how it’s designed/embellished but how it can propel a narrative without much context.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Often times when friends are down we like to walk discovery green or the theater district for the art installations. A trip to the museum of fine arts is also a must. Also a trip to the hobbit Cafe or proper rose tea garden, those are some lovely spots to eat and catch up with friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I would definitely like to shout out to some people I consider friends and mentors, @lutaviacosplay (they/them), @sparrowhawkcosplay (she/her), @krissy.cosplays (she/her) and the community in the Houston Cosplay Group (Facebook).
I have learned so much, and have gotten a lot of support from them all over the years.
