We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan English and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of our band is just staying true to who we are as individuals and as a band. We don’t try to be like what’s trending right now, genre jumpers, or people who are just cashing in on “what’s hot” right now. We stick to our roots and who we are, and make the music we like. The more we continue to do that, the more our fans see US and who we are through our music and they can enjoy more genuine music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
* Most proud of/ excited about- Most proud of our upcoming album, and excited to go on tour.
* We got where we are today just by constantly learning. We never let ourselves get too content or comfortable. We kept shooting towards new ideas, and new goals.
* No, it was not easy. We overcame challenges as a band by just sticking to what we know and what we love. There are some challenges we haven’t gotten over yet. But we have so many goals and accomplishments we want to achieve. We look towards to future and we work towards what we want. We are dedicated to reach them.
*Lessons:
– If it sounds like it’s too good to be true, it mostly likely is.
* The world to know about KFC:
We want the world to know that we can’t wait to meet new people and make new fans. We have some new music that’s on it’s way to be released and we cant wait to have everyone hear it. We’re trying to carry the torch for Rock N Roll and keep it around.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Buzz team and The Rod Ryan Show are definitely fun people. The Buzz Radio studio was so interesting to check out, they had so many artists and bands on their walls.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Firstly, we would thank our fans. Without their support, them showing up to shows, buying merch, and voting for us in competitions- we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Generally, we both would like to thank our families who do so much. They buy merch, share our posts, and just like the rest, are so dedicated to our journey. Both families give a lot of support and were thankful.
Our good friend, James Garza from “In The Aftermath”. Without his guidance and knowledge, we wouldn’t have some things we know now. James and his significant other, Mayra, have been our biggest fans since day one. James knew how to help us with setting up shows, crowd participation, and who to talk to in the scene. We can’t thank him enough for stepping up to help us at the start of our band.
We also want to thank all of the bass players who have stepped in and were a part of the band. Jason Beard, thank you for all your help with shows and dedicating some of your time and skills to the upbringing of Key Flight Captains.
A shout out to The Steve Satchel Band, which Jason Beard is a part of. These guys have been so much fun to be in the same scene together. They have so much skill and knowledge between them all, and we appreciate them for all the advice, help, and wisdom. These guys are incredible.
Thanks to Ian, who was a part of our story. He has given so much support to us. We appreciate what he’s done for us, and how he still to this day continues to encourage us. He’s a good friend who pushes his fellow musicians to keep going and stay dedicated to their music.
Shout out to Paco and Kyle. Paco, for all the love and support. Tired-less nights at gigs with us. Kyle, for the confidence boost and all the love. Without both of their supports and efforts, we wouldn’t have the motivation we do.
Shout out to Charles, for being the best friend and roommate a dude could ask for. For all the love and support. Coming to shows, buying merch, and helping us along the way.
And lastly, thank you to Daniel Gilbert for starting the band with me, Ryan. He believed in our music and our songs, as he helped in the making of them. We wouldn’t be what we are without him seriously, he even helped name the band. Corey joined in the band before Daniel left- and it was a great time.
We have so many more people we wish we could thank, but the list is so long. These people have made a huge impact in our journey and deserve recognition. But thank you to everyone who has been by our side, at our shows, and so much more.
Personal Thank You From – Ryan English (vocalist, guitarist)
“Personally, I would like to thank my father. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have the love of music that I have today. He’s given me all the tools and support I could ever dream of to practice and make the band I have. Of course, my mother as well. She is the biggest supporter who does so much for me, and continues to do so.”
“To Sara-Beth who effortlessly helped us with our website designing, social media posting, photo shoots, help with publicity, and just anything we needed help with- she stepped in to do so. She has done a lot for us, and continues to do so. She has been a big part of Key Flight Captains lately with all her love, support, and understanding of what I, and the band have to do. I wouldn’t be able to be with her if it wasn’t for that. I also want to thank Halie, for allowing me to be apart of her life and for loving me back.”
“Thanks to JR, because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t even be in a band. Thank you for the support and the motivation to be in one, and to even start one.”
